mollyandjack

Well, I got fed up with kibble... Fed chicken quarters and some organ meat. I'll probably go to Costco tomorrow to stock up. So far so good: no issues with chewing properly, hearty eaters, no tummy upsets! Yay!

Jack and Molly say thanks pdb for all your raw diet threads (among other resources)!

Well for my dogs, today is exactly l month,  I also gave up on kibble.  So far so good;  just one male is bringing up some pieces of bones, may have to go ground for him he is my finichy eater and a giant pain in the a--, but he seems to feel good and looks good;  so far so good.  I'll keep my fingers crossed  for you;  really isn't as hard as I thought it would be;  I had to of course, think it to death.  Drove myself nuts;  but feel pretty good about it now.  Best of luck for you also.  Nan

Oh thanks, that makes me feel better! I was also feeling anxious about it and researching/rethinking for probably a year. I'm glad that your dogs are doing so well! It's been about six hours now for me...no vomiting. They chewed pretty well though.

Good for you! I bet your dogs said THANK YOU!

By the way, some people swear by feeding frozen food to dogs who don't chew properly.

Thanks for the tip!
Yes, my GSD just about took my arm off he was so excited. I was trying to hold onto the chicken quarter to make sure that he chewed...well he didn't have a problem chewing, as he demonstrated on my fingers. Not being aggressive though, just trying to get the yummy food.

Pharaoh

Pharaoh is normally a great chewer.  When I was reading about dogs throwing up bones, I thought lucky me.  Pharaoh is a great chewer.

HA!  I was woken up from a good sleep by the sound of Pharaoh hacking up a little bit of not so well chewed bone.

He used to do that occasionally when he was a pup.  It has been a long time.

I did give him a snack last night of two drumsticks.  No more late night snacks.

I am reminding him about chewing,

Michele

Day two - chicken and some fish, maybe some liver too

My collie is now being a little weird about the bones...she chews them up but I can tell that she's a little puzzled. She's a very dainty girl, doesn't like to get wet or muddy, or apparently rip into chicken flesh LOL. She seems to like the taste though, so that's good. My GSD has no manners or inhibitions and is loving the crunch crunch sound he gets to make. Still no tummy upsets from either.

Has Pharaoh always been on raw? He looks like a healthy healthy boy! :D

Pharaoh has been raw fed since eight weeks old-ground food. At eleven weeks we went to chicken parts.

Congrats! I've been also feeding my guy raw ever since we got him. Everyone always comment about how great his teeth and coat looks and I thank raw for that! Never had to brush his teeth once since I would give him a raw bone to chew on here and there. Raw will do wonders and also research about giving liver because I heard that it is not healthy in certain amounts.
Also, what organ meat do you give your GSD?

by VomMarischal on 07 April 2010 - 13:04

I use green tripe (freaking disgusting), liver, kidney, tongue, heart---whatever I can get.
