this  dog is new to me. a friend was giving him away. his name is hawk. he is 14 years old and he came from the pound a year ago. his owner that surrendered him said he was a shepherd/wolf. i think he looks shepherd/akita. what do you think?

I don't think there is any wolf in him.  I would think if he had Akita in him his ears would be up.  It's possible he is 100% GSD, just a very poorly bred one.  Hard to say. 14?  Wow!  Kind of you to give him a home.  He looks like a sweetie.  I love it that he has a good home to live out the rest of his life.  Good for you.

his ears go up all the way when alert. when he is outside running around and marking stuff then they stay up. yeah the paperwork said 14. he is a sweet boy, good with spunk and fluff, great with my daughter and cats, walks up to strangers and kisses them. thanx   :-) he is taller than my female gsd spunky and has smaller feet. those feet and that short tail remind me of a couple akita mixes that i know. i looked up german shepherd/akita mix pictures online and the resemblance is amazing. thanx for replying.

BYB GSD w/somewhat floppy ears is my official diagnosis.

I love old dogs.

Kudos to you for giving this old sweetie a forever home. Thank you! If you ever need help for him, don't hesitate to come back here and put the word out. There are lots of people who, while unable or unwilling to take in a senior dog, would be happy to assist someone who does.

How anyone culd give an old dog away is beyond me, however kudos to you for giving the old fellow a home he deserves a bit of comfort in his old age, good to see some people have a kind heart and you certainly have

no wolf.  Something else a little bigger boned/headed than a GSD, maybe - could be akita, or malamute, or hound dog, or sneaky neighbor dog.  Anyway, he looks good for 14 and wonderful of you to take him in.
