Phil Behun

See if you can recognize this couple training.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOFoh9q9UbU

Hint:  It's a long "straight tail" of woe.

I can't believe that anyone involved in the "sport" would take anything she has to say seriously.  This has to be some of the worst training I have ever seen,,,,,,,,,even the dogs don't like it.  Nothing like taking your dog's desire to work and replacing it with "you had better do it or die".  Note the creative footwork for the failed platz..  That would be the "I'm too freakin' lazy to bend over" correction.  Unbelievable how many 100's of thousands of dollars this woman has made treating dogs like this.  This just proves another case of "dogs are a way to make money, I really don't like them."  Ouch, double ouch and YECCHHH!!!

I am a total beginner, so I'm asking from a standpoint of want to learn....

1.  The 1st dog looks stressed to me - yawning, licking, ears back.  Am I reading this incorrectly?

2.  For a trial (AKC obedience or schutzhund) aren't you looking for quick response to commands (i.e. sit or down)?  I know there are some style differences, but the people I have seen train don't have to stop and wait for their dogs to take their own sweet time to sit.

3.  Isn't it counterproductive to give a correction with the leash while simultaneously saying the command?  I have done some intensive work with conditioning behavior in kids with autism, but I'm sure the same principles apply to dogs.

I don't know these people or had any experience with that kennel, although the name sounds familiar.

That was just aggrivationg to watch. Poor dog. If this is where I think it is and how I think has it...I just want to cry!!! If i only had a few mill to get that place...it would be a fun place to have dog training and horses.GRRRR

Ok just watched more..I can only take the clip in small bits. Are these people getting paid to train that dog? If so that is just sad...really sad. The dog is hating her and every minute of it.Even the way she pets the dog is with out heart or feeling. I am sure that the dog knows that and feels it. It kills me that people like that make so much $$. Maybe if I trained like that I could make $....only problem is that I care about the dogs.

It is where you think it is and it is who you think it is.  Pathetic how people are misusing the world of dogs just for money.

Two Moons

I couldn't watch it the first time I was so disgusted, but I figured if I was going to comment I should at least watch the whole thing.
I was wrong.
Nothing was any different start, middle, or end.
Who are these people?
I saw so much that was wrong, I didn't see anything that was right.
The poor dog looked like it was trying but so confused and scared of that abusive yank on the pinch, mixed signals, and misguided condescending praise.
I'd like to put that pinch on that woman and string her up with it.

That was the worst training I have ever seen.

The worst of the Nine.

Petros

I do not think they have the SLIGHTEST CLUE about dog training.

These "people" are a disgrace, at the least.

I do not feel any more comments should be done. They do not deserve the slightest time even to curse on them!

I managed to watch 4 minutes of it and that was 4 minutes too long. Neither of them have a clue about training a Dog in Obed, and the younger one looking at her i guess is the daughter of the older woman
She has the Dog on a tight leash throughout That is sacrilege to have a Dog on a tight leash, well it is over here they go Light if they see it happening Loose Leash, Loose Leash, they bellow at the one doing it
If they are being paid to train Dogs then the ones paying are complete Fools. Plus Both dogs are Stressed,
Not once did i see a treat being given if the Dog did good, and the continual yanking of the dog is certainly not needed one correction is enough, The Younger one needs to be trained in giving commands to a Dog she is too soft in the commands they hold no authority, You do not have to shout it is the way it is said which counts so she is a complete novice as is the older one not a lot better
The Only thing i have to say about these two women Training Dogs is this
I would Love to have them over here with me minus Dogs just to train themselves into some sort of bodily condition  which both sadly lack, and i would make sure they did as i asked for they would be wearing a Prong and a Electric Collar as a Back up if they did not comply with my training methods which would be fair but tough, But i would get positive results from them that is certain. It makes me Mad when i see Videos like that
Just for the record, I have never had to use an Electric Collar ever on a Dog to teach it Obed, But i sure think these two would get a few sharp  nicks from it as i think they would need it, Notched up to around 80 should get them focusing
