Bhall

Meet Drago.  He was a beautiful healthy 15 months old Violka Anrebri and Chero Bulsara Son.
Drago never had any health problems.  My client applied Frontline for the first time on Tuesday March 9th and he was rushed to the Animal Hospital the next day.  He was vomitting and lethargic.  Needless to say he had to be euthanized last night.  It attacked his red blood cells.  He had several transfusions but he rejected them.  Vet did confirm that it was most likely the Frontline.
I know that most dogs tolerate Frontline but this is the second dog that I know had a bad reaction.
Please keep the Vickery Family in your prayers.

Very sorry to hear that. When I worked at the vet clinic you can't even imagine how many dogs would come in like that.Thankfully we were able to save them. There was a cat that the owner put dog frontline on and it was there for days getting fluids and meds.Amazingly the cat lived. I stay away from topicles.I rather give me dogs natural things that keep the bug away. Wishing the best for the Vickery family.

I'm still concerned about the product myself in regards to cancer down the line.
I had one dog who had bad reactions as well, had to stop using it and treat with a dip, which also is a concern.

I wonder if a lawyer would be interested and if your Vet would go on record with an autopsy.

Sad for sure, and enough to be angry over.

So, what is the safest flea/tick product to use? I live in Maine, and both are a problem here.

I use Frontline but now I'm rethinking.  I lost one young dog and wouldn't like to take a chance on losing another.  Spring is around the corner and it's time to start thinking about fleas and ticks so I'm open for better suggestions.  My Aunt used to (not sure if she still does) feed garlic and swore by it but now that's even on the "don't feed" list.  What natural remedies, if any, really work?

Edited to add:
Since I've used this product before and he had no reaction, is that a sure thing or can they have a bad reaction even if it's been used on them with no probelm before?

I still use the Frontline, I also have a dip, it depends on the dog I would say.
Perhaps if concerned a vet could do a test before using the product full dose, like an allergy test.
I know my dip can be dangerous.

I have ticks out the wazoo and at times I wonder if the risks are equal, ticks or the deceases themselves.

We use Revolution with no side effects and have had very good luck with it.

Very VERY sad.
Has anyone heard of similar incidents with K9 Advantix?

As far as a natural remedy I have heard cinnamon works .
I mix it in with their food when I feed raw.
