I have a 5 month old male GSD that we imported from Germany, we just got the pink papers and I was wondering if any one knows how I would transfer his papers from the breeders name to our name?

Thanks,  Kathy O.

Kathyo,
you don't!!!
The breeder transfers the dog to you on the back page (page 4).There is a line which says "Eigentumswechsel" (change of ownership). The breeder will have (hopefully) written your name in it with a date and his signature. There should be one blank field left in that line which requires your signature. That is all you need to do!
To register your dog with the AKC, you need to contact the SV (Mrs. Sabine Leib) for the Ownership certificate (Eigentumsbescheinigung).  Her email is AKC@schaeferhund.de, she speaks English. Once you have that, go to the AKC website (www.akc.org) and download and print the foreign individual application and just follow instructions. Remember to never send the originals to the AKC, only copies. That is perfectly acceptable, even if instructions and people tell you otherwise.

Thank you, I will have to look to see if he filled out the page and signed it.  What if he did not do this?

When he legally still owns the dog. You would need to contact him and send the pink papers back to him for this ownership transfer and his signature.

I just tried to send an email to Ms. Leib, at the above address for the same thing and I received a failure to deliver notice.
I sent one several months ago and never got a reply back.

Stacy,
try AKC@schaeferhunde.de !
The SV has both websites, www.schaeferhund.de and www.schaeferhunde.de
If all else fails, you can use the general email address info@schaeferhunde.de . You would just have to adress it to her.
I just had correspondence with her a couple of weeks ago.

I recently changed ownership on my new dog.  Mrs. Laib is always helpful and replied quickly to all emails.  Now to send in the AKC request, I hope it goes as smoothly.

Hello,
actually, it is the breeders responsibility to inform the SV of the owner change. If you bought the pup BEFORE the pups were tatooed (or now chipped), the breeder could have easily put down your name onto the "Wurfmeldeschein" (litter registration form) as the new owner of this pup. This way the SV would know, who is the owner and they would have put the ownerchange allready into your pups pedigree. (page 4).
All the other info provided is very good.
Hi Chris & Stacy, hope you are ok.

Thank you Chris,
I will try that address...

My situation was a bit different. The pup was tattooed and left in the breeders name because the gentleman who bought her for me didn't know whether to put my name, or my husband's name on the papers, since she was a gift...plus we were moving so didn't want the papers to get lost in the mail, or sent to the wrong address...
Nice to see you Ulli, Things are going very well over here... drop me a line some time!

 Ulli,

Hello. Is that a new puppy in your avatar? It is really, really cute. I love its sweet expression.
