Hey Guys,

I have a few questions about this.
I would like to get my female showline's OFAs done, but I have not yet sent her pink papers in to be transferred into my name.  She turned two years old his month.
I am seriously considering selling her. For the record, she was a gift from a friend overseas, with no strings attached.  I have his blessing to sell her, give her away- whatever if she didn't work out for any reason.
I tried getting help with filling the papers out correctly but didn't get any, so the papers are still in the breeder's name....

I would like to have her Hips/Elbows done, so it's something the new owners don't have to do when they buy her. I also think that it will help me to offer her for a fair price. In other words, if the OFAs come back  mild or dysplastic, that will also reflect in the price and will mean I will also have to spay her before I let her go...Sorry just don't trust people enough to not breed based on her pedigree....

If I can't get official OFA's without her being in my name, would just regular xrays given to the new owner be enough?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Stacy, have you spoken to the O.F.A. about this matter? If the dog is positively identified with a tattoo or microchip and you send a copy of the Deckbescheinigung they should have no problem giving you a survey. It may not be "official" findings regarding transferability, but it will be correct for the dog.

As far as I know, the O.F.A. will evaluate a mutt. And of course afterwards it is still a mutt. I would contact the O.F.A. and get THEIR answer, but I think it will be fine.

Best Regards,
Bob-O

Appreciate the response Bob,
I have not spoken to the O.F.A. yet. She does have a tattoo, which is pretty clear still, and it is listed on her papers.
I will give them a call...

they do it all the time just denote the SV number and the tatoo on the x ray, You are just submitting as the agent or whatever  they will not ask for a copy to see who owns the dog they are only concerned that its that dog, they do not list owner info on the site

thanks Stacey! I would just list yourself as the owner so the certificates come to your address. They do list siblings reference the SV numbers so make sure and put the sire and dam number though they do seem inconsistent with it, either that or people fail to list the numbers

I somehow missed this last post, thank you Lief...

Should I put her SZ number, along with her sire and dam on the paperwork?

Ugh! I am so ignorant to all of this ;-)

Stacy, I would complete as much information as space allows, and treat this evaluation just like any official and final evaluation. The opinion of the O.F.A. is just as legitimate as that of the S.V. or any other qualified entity. The radiograph must be marked with the information required for any radiographic evaluation in order for it to be a testament.

I mentioned transferability earlier. I do not think the results of the evaluation would show up on a A.K.C. pedigree if one later chose to register this dog with the A.K.C.. I think that the passing results of the evaluation would only be recorded with the A.K.C. if the evaluation was done after the dog obtained A.K.C. registration, but I really do not know. I think from the way you asked your original question that is really not a concern at this point.

Good Luck!

When I did mine a week ago. My vet asked me to bring the original pedigree and a copy of their current vaccinations and the OFA form pre filled out. The form has a place for foreign registry and registration number and either tattoo or microchip number (if any). One of the dogs that I had done was AKC the other had Slovakia Kennel Club registry. It was not a problem.

Here's a link to the form  - http://www.offa.org/hdappbw.pdf

Make sure you got to a vet that does OFA x-rays often, they are more likely to do it correctly.

Thank you Sita'sMom,
I appreciate the information.
One of the reasons I didn't have them done sooner is because I have not been given any good references for vets here in the Las Vegas area, so I am waiting. I've seen too many people posting on here of pictures of poor xrays/positioning... I'd rather wait to get a good recommendation from an experienced vet than rush and have her get a unfair rating based on poor quality xrays.
Thanks again
Stacy
