Hello I'm looking for a dark sable or black male for sale for family companion and protection work. I'm experienced with the breed and we do have a 14 month old GSD right now. Please email me with any options you might have thanks. Gnj5@rcn.com

I am willing to bet that most people with puppies will not do a payment plan.

They will probable say that if you can not afford to purchase the dog you cant pay for general up keep for the puppy.

But...

I could be wrong, have been before

I let 3 people do payment plans from the last litter.BUT- I knew them, or they knew a close friend. These were not randoms, and they didn't ask for it specifically. They were trying to make it work, and I offered because I'd rather get the pup where it's going, into the best home possible, than make it sit around and wait until I had all the money. I could've sold the pups to homes who could pay for them right away, but these were handfuls, and I wanted them in the best home, not the richest home. I'd rather have them budget and pay for good food and healthcare than spend it all at once.

I will second that troublelinx. If you cant afford to pay out right any breeder I know would say no.  If anything maybe you can make payments and when you have finished paying then that would sign the pup over to you. Or if it was a friend that you knew that bred...but other then that.Good luck!!

Next time I will suggest that they take out a small loan and make payments to the BANK...at least the bank has recourse, and I'll have a better feeling about the buyer's reliablility.

I dont agree that just because some one could not afford to out right purchase a puppy means that they shouldnt have one. Like Jenni said its about the best home not the richest home. Of course by the time you get to know the buyers well enough to let them purchase one of your pups, you should know them well enough to be able to trust them to be reliable enough to pay the payments.

I wouldnt disagree with the breeder holding the pup until it is paid in full and making a reasonable timeline to for the pup to be paid in full.

If you can't afford the Ferrari then you must settle for what you can afford.

Gas still costs the same.

if you cant afford the costs up front then you should put aside the amount of money you would be investing in your dog every month until you are capable of purchasing as well as a side fund for emergency care, training,  etc.....

Then buy your puppy.

What happens when the cant afford the pup and then you take one on payment plan then your dog breaks a leg, or gets sick, etc....

Last year I spent a but load for a spiral fracture one of dogs suffered while doing agility exercises.Things happen and you have to be prepaired. Its exspensive and if you cant afford them then you shouldnt own them. Its that simple. You take responsibility for a life you should be capable of maintaining it sufficiently.

Yoshy, all the reasons you listed are EXACTLY why I gave people a payment plan. What happens when they spend the money up front and then the dog breaks a leg? I'd rather have them keep the money for an emergency and budget what they're sending me.

A side note...the 3 I sent home on payment plans were the 3 'extra' I had b/c I wasn't expecting 9 pups on a single tie, for a first litter. Everyone who had planned on buying a pup had the money up front; the others were just trying to take advantage of a great opportunity, but it was rather sudden, and they weren't prepared.

Let's face it- lots of "animal" people aren't rich. Lots of times, it's not where our priorities lie. If someone wants to make payments for a few weeks/mos. so they can keep providing good quality food to all their animals, I have no problem with that.

As a buyer I am against payment plans because I want to own my animals outright.  I do not do co-owns or anything like that, unless it's a dog I really have no interest in other than curing my puppy fever (for example my breeder had two dogs and wanted to keep them both so I took a puppy for a while to socialize, housebreak, and do some training imprinting, but I had no desire to actually keep the dog).  I know people can make it work but I personally have seen it destroy friendships so I've just made a blanket decision that when I buy a dog, I buy it outright.
