I'm not sure if this is paranoid rumors or the truth but it is something to think about - Granted it would be a hell of a lot harder to steal most GSDs but I know some folks here have little guys too
This is a cross post of a fwd email I received last night....
Just wanted to pass this along.

missing, and a chiihuahua that was stolen. I've personally talked to a
gal in Sebeka, MN who's adult dogs suddenly vanished from her yard last
weekend. They were adults and not prone to running. I just got this in
email today. It sounds like they are working their way south. They may
especially be preying on dogs posted on CL, so be careful giving your
information out if you have a dog to rehome.

BUNCHERS....they operate nationally as well. WATCH YOUR DOGS WHEN THEY
ARE OUTSIDE ALONE! Bunchers are individuals or groups who will buy
entire litters of puppies, steal dogs, barter or otherwise get them,
and then either trade them to brokers or other individuals for profit,
or to anywhere they can, such as fighting rings, research

than stellar purposes. The fate of the pet is sealed once they get
them, they will not return them, have been known to attempt extortion
and other horrible things to make a buck or two. They are horrible
people. I have been watching various posts, warning of a ring like this
through several states, not just in the midwest. I wish there was
something we could do as group to ensure that these people do not get
away with what they are doing. Also from what I've read on here and the
news, dogs are disappearing in the cities also. This was posted in
Duluth, MN and I think everyone needs to read this. BEWARE, Happening
in cities also.

many people who have had their pets stolen from their fenced yards,
taken off tie-outs, and one brave enough to run up to a man's porch in
broad daylight and try to steal his Dachund. Luckily, he lived by a 4
way stop, and ran into the street in front of the cars. When he yelled
"What are you doing with my dog" the woman threw her out of the window
to the pavement and said "We thought she was lost" then took off before
he could get a licence number. Note: A woman was driving and she had a
9 or 10 year old girl run for her.Unfortunately, I was an intended
target as well. I'd noticed a blue truck with a topper and a sort of
loud muffler going slowly past my fenced yard off and on for the last
three weeks. Last week one of the guys (there were 2 men) got out by my
side fence and bent down to my small dogs-luckily I was standing at the
door and was out there like a shot.Needless to say, they took off. Four
nights ago, just at dusk, I heard that truck again. This time they

..............continued
This time they
pulled up the the front fence (so all I could see was the side of the
truck-no plates). Two of my dogs were out. The guy in the passenger
side jumped out and was at my fence in a second, bent down and calling
"come here puppy want this come here.." Again, luckily I've been
keeping an Eagle Eye on my dogs. I ran out and called Ricky (he was
closest) and at the same time screamed "What the he** are you
doing"...well he was in the truck and gone in 2 seconds. The next day,
my boyfriend was out in back by the garage, and Ricky trotted up to
him! We couldn't figure out how in the world he'd gotten out, until we
checked the fence. The spot where this dog thief was squatting the
night before had used wire cutters to snip several pieces of our fence
wire...just enough to reach in and grab the dogs. Please be advised
that there has also been a report of a dark haired woman in a
coupe-like red car who has been spotted doing the same thing. God knows
how many there are and how many vehicles are being used. PLEASE use
caution when letting your dogs out. Mine will never go out alone again!
Please crosspost nationally.

I think we should all be careful especially with puppies and non-protection trained dogs. These are the most vulnerable IMO. I f you don't have a fence, keep you dog indoors or in a well secured kennel. Good luck guys.

I got one here they can try to steal, if they like. How many minutes should I wait after the screaming starts to come get my dog?

by Keith Grossman on 15 March 2010 - 12:03
I think you're supposed to wait until the screaming stops before you go get your dog.

The one other piece of info that caught my attention was the buying and selling of entire litters to one person. Of course no even semi-resposible breeder would ever part with an entire litter or would they.... People are creepy, no wonder I rather spend so much time with my dogs....

My sister raises Shelties - two strangers approached them and all hell broke loose. What they lacked in size and bite that made up in noise. Her neighbor on one side has a Lab and the other has a Mal. My brother-in-law stopped the two wanna be thieves with a sawed-off shotgun before they could get away.
