Not sure if this is the right place to post this, so forgive me if I offend anybody.

I have been looking for a GSD puppy to train for Search and Rescue work and have come to realize that they are pretty pricey and the only way that I will be able to get what I want is to sell one of my horses or possibly do a trade. If nobody is interested would still like to know  if any breeders out there have what I am looking for. So here goes.

I have a really nice 8yr old World Champion Hunt Seat Appaloosa Mare that I would be willing to trade for a GSD puppy 3-9mos old. She is by 2 time World Champion Mr. Cool Hand Luke and out of  my Thoroughbred mare. She is a solid bay (no spots) and stands at a solid 16.1hands. She is trained in hunt seat but has not been ridden on a regular basis for a couple of years so would need to be re-conditioned and have her training brushed up. She has an awesome disposition and is without any major  vices. Her only issue is that she has bone spurs in her hocks so she would not be suitable as a jumper and if you were going to show her she would need to have her hocks injected (usually every 6mos. if training hard). Otherwise her lameness is minor to non-existent and she is in perfect health. I have raised "Lucy" from birth and she is very special to me so I am pretty picky (as I am sure you GSD breeders are about your puppies) about who I would send her to. If I sell her she will be listed at $3500.00.

The puppy I am looking for needs to have: (already assuming the puppy is healthy)
High Drive
Parents with excellent hips and elbows and come with its own hip and elbow guarantee of good or better.
Parents that have a good work ethic, maybe they are SAR dogs themselves.
a good mouth (do not mean bite drive)
good eyes
DNA test N/N for Degenerative Myelopathy, which I will be glad to pay for
parents with good dispositions
ideally have a pedigree with a combination of working and show lines
Sex does not really matter but would prefer a male
Color does not  really matter as they are all beautiful to me.
Not a long coat as it is hard to keep the wilderness vegetation out of it.
I am sure I am forgetting something but this is a start.

Please email me if you are interested in a trade. Thanks for any advice and interest you have in my post.

Cheri, what is your experience level w/GSDs?

Now is this an Appaloosa, or a Thoroughbred ?
A bay, no spots, 8 with bone spurs and not ridden in a while.
$3,500.00 is pricey.

Why would you assume that a dog who would excel at search and rescue should cost that much money?

What you are asking for is a tall order in my opinion with OFA excellent and DNA for DM.
Working line/show line mix?

I just think you are not really sure about any of it after reading your posts.

Best wishes, good luck,
Moons.

Appaloosa's can be registered if one parent is full app and the other is thoroughbred or quarter horse. They often have no spots. Just as quarter horses can be registered as an "appendix" quarter horse if one parent is quarter horse and the other is thoroughbred. Also, Paint horses can have a quarter horse parent.  Sometimes, a quarter horse bred to another quarter horse will throw a "crop-out", which has too much white to be a quarter horse, but then is accepted in the Paint horse registry.

Crazy, huh?

How about a Welsh Cob and a QH=Appendix QH. Odd, huh? Typically, you think of appendix meaning TB/QH, but it really means anything/QH.

I think the OP has been scared by information overload.

LOL...I agree, Jenni...way too many questions and information.

I love the cob horses by the way and the gypsy vanner horses.

I have a (reportedly) Cob/QH. He's cute- barely 14.2, QH build, a little stockier, really pretty eyes, slightly "fancier" movement (lots of neck arching and tail lifting, and a bit more animated movement than a QH typically- but I don't know much, so take that w/a grain of salt). Also has a kind of wavy mane that's getting really long- after being shaved. Kind of a dished out face, too, esp. noticeable from certain angles. Very calm, but has a pony-like stubbornness.

Gypsy Vanners are very cool!

 Jenni,
It almost sounds like you horse has some arabian in him? The sculpted face and animated motions, almost floats, or dances? They are notorious for the neck arching, too, almost an attitude of "Everyone look at me; I am amazing"! The "working" line quarter horses tend to be shorter and stockier, so that could still fit your guy. He sounds beautiful. Do you have any pictures?
We have an appaloosa, but raised quarter horses for many years. Just recently, as we slipped over the age 50 bracket, we invested in a couple of Rocky Mountain horses to trail ride. They are a bit smoother on old joints! LOL...

Don't forget that now a horse registerd AQHA can have what used to be disqualifying white and be dual registered as a Paint...........

Davren, I switched from AQHA to mules for trail riding.  Very smooth!

Arabs were part of the founding breeds in Cobs;-) Yes, I thought Arab when I saw some pics of him, but his build is quite un-Arab-like. He's built like a brick $h!+house, lol. I read up on Cobs, and learned that there is Arab blood in them, and that made a lot more sense. I think he's very good looking, but I'm biased!

I'll try to find some pics of him that show his movement....too bad all the recent ones look more like a mud puppy than a horse. Springtime in IL!
