My 9 year old had decided to be terrified of owls. She never had a problem with any noises until about 2 years ago . It's usually when we are asleep you can sometimes and I thank god it is only sometimes you can hear the owls hooting and she just springs up and comes over to me and jumps up with just her front paws on the bed and wants me to do something but what can I do.
We can call her up on the bed and that won't work she just gets in a panic and nothing we can do to help works. Just thought I would share this terrifying owl story with everybody because I don't really expect an answer but will be hoping there may be one.

Let her go outside and you walk around with her on a leash or freely and just walk around the yar don't talk to her and do it everytime it happens.."yes its a pain in the but to get out of bed for something small but she will see you calm assertive side and learn to trust the noise is not the Boogie man..

My female is afraid of lightning...they all got issues

Maybe try one of those sleep machines? LOL Maybe you can drown out the hooting with some white noise? There must be some owlish frequency that is upsetting your dog. I admit, I've never heard of this type of problem! You need LAVk9, she seems to know a bit about birds of prey (and dogs!)

If we are outside she can't get in the house fast enough..  I hear ya about working her through it though. I need to get a cd of owls hooting and just play it real quiet at first and not to often then build it up. You are right it's work though but I am home with them all day and it is still winter .

Maybe you can make your own recording to use for desensitizing?
Is that a drawing in your avatar?

The way I got both of my dogs to ignore thunder was to firmly make them platz and ignore them & the thunder as if it is an everyday occurance.  Echo learned during one of the worst storms we've ever experienced.  It was so loud and close it shook the house.  Made me jump each time but I was reading the paper and managed to bluff her through it.  What ever you do don't coddle her when she is having this issue.  If she can pick up on you being calm about it she should relax knowing that there is nothing to fear.  Good luck!

if you take her out for a walk each time, she will wish for the owls to hoot. i would go with the cd.
