I'm new here and probably should have come here first.

I'm considering buying a german shepherd pup from Shepherds By Design in ILL. I've been hearing about unplanned litters from the same unregistered male and suspicious deaths at this kennel. I would appreciate more info from people that may be familiar with this kennel.

Females don't have titles.

Have you checked with the OFA to make sure the hips are actually certified?

What are you looking for in a dog? A kennel recommendation depends a lot on what you want to do with the dog.

I have had one death here that was from Pyometra in which we lost our female Rena. Other than that I don't have a clue as to who you are getting your information from, but before this all gets out of hand here I figured I would set it straight. It's much nicer and wiser to talk TO the person you're wondering about than ABOUT if you have questions. Just mentioning someone on here sometimes makes people think they're guilty...just FYI.

I have trained a few dogs from this breeder. I don't know him personally nor do I know anything about his breeding program. Pretty good temperments and one black female in particular was a very nice worker. Buyers were all very satified and happy with their puppies.

Thank you all for your responses, public and private. I didn’t intend to touch off a firestorm. I prefer to narrow my search for a breeder before I ever contact them. It saves so much of my time and theirs.

In the end, no matter what a person is selling, they are going to tell you what you want to hear and will conveniently gloss over the bad points. I prefer to not put that kind of pressure on a person. When I finally do make a decision and contact a breeder I will be better armed and not be able to blame anyone but myself if I’ve made a mistake.
