Searching for a solid Female w/Sch Title - Page 1

I am looking for a solid female for protection/companion.I own/operate a small locksmith business in NC.In these desperate times we are in,I've had one too many close calls in the field.Working some areas are dangerous and it's hard to watch your back when you are trying to unlock a vehicle.So this being said I am in search of a partner that can offer the protection I need in any situation.

I am experienced owner/handler and have had the pleasure of training and living with an experienced Schutzhund dog.

Don't want to stir the pot, but what makes you feel as though a Schutzhund titled dog is going to protect you and a handler in Schutzhund knows how to handle a personal protection trained dog.  Just curious.

Interesting how someone who doesn't know me, has never seen me, but can read my mind.  It was a serious question.  I'm on the fence about buying a dog trained in schutzhund or one trained as a PPD.  I apologize if I hit a nerve.  It wasn't my intention, I recognise I don't know it all and I seek knowledge. 

Does NC have a carry law?

Your a lock smith, you must be good with your hands.
What would be someones motive to harm you?

Someone is always trying to stir the pot as it were.
That was the reason why  ( I love it.)

If you definitely decide on a dog, I would probably look more at a male.  As far as a Schutzhund dog actually protecting you, it depends on the dog and who owns it.  I started with PP dogs almost 30 years ago and now I do sport.  I really have no use for a PP dog as I am a really good shot but I also require a certain type of dog for my personal dog.  If I didn't feel that my dog had the stones to stand up for himself,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he'd be living somewhere else.

I'm with Phil on this.  Having a dog with a schutzhund title should be an indication (note that I said should) that you have a dog that is fairly stable temperamentally and who has some training which is all you should need.  The dog is a deterrent.  I see a lot of talk on this forum about real dog this and protection dog that but the reality is that if you have a dog like a GSD, trained or not, and someone is still willing to engage you despite the presence of the dog, that is a bad person and you need a gun.

NC has both open and concealed carry. For CC you need a permit and for open you do not.

That being said, Schutzhund is by no means a good indicator that a dog will protect you.

He is a nice enough looking dog and he looks intimidating enough.  I am sure you can teach him to bark on command.  He will probabably be as likely to defend you as a schutzhund dog that you pay $5000.oo for.  Unless, of course, the criminal attacks you in scratch pants and a sleeve.  It would also be beneficial if the criminal would set up a blind first to attack you out of.  In that case..a schutzhund dog would be the best.

I know you know the difference..just having some fun. 

You will be doing a great thing for the dog and he would be enough of a deterrant for possible criminals.

You will also have less liablility problems than if you had a "PPD".
