Need infromation on a dogs HIP Score. If he has a hip score of 106, what will be his hip grading in germany.

With an HD Zuchtwert score of 106, the dog is probably "a3" noch Zugelassen. This is the lowest evaluation that will pass in the S.V. If this dog is noch Zugelassen he will probably fail the FCI evaluation, the B.V, evaluation, and the O.F.A. evaluation. He of course could have "a1" Normal or "a2" fast-Normal hips with this score, but the high score of 106 means that either his parents do not improve, or that he does not improve. Anything above 100 produces worse than normal levels of hip dysplasia. I can't speak for worldwide results, but approximately 19% of German Shepherds fail the O.F.A. evaulation in the U.S.A. If the is mated with a bitch, that bitch's HD Zuchwert score must be no more than 94 in order for the litter to average 100 or lower. In my opinion-I would not breed anything to him. Once the number is past 95 for either parent, I become uncomfortable with it.

Bob-O,I have a question. This is NOT intended to challange your statement, it is JUST for my edification. NOTHING MORE. If 100 is considered a normal, why would you be uncomfortable with a score of 95. Thanks.

Wy don't you name the dog, and I will provide you with all the info you need: HD-ZW of parents and the same of all of his littermates, aunts and uncles. In my study which was publicized on different websites and sent to all of the bigger Universities in Germany and the OFA, I have made an evaluation of the HD-results of 554.596 GSD's (which represents 25% of all GSD's ever registered by the SV). Of this population of over half a million of GSD's, only 19,02% can give proof of the rating "HD-1"; 7,78% received the result "HD-2". Apart from 1,16 % of the dogs x-rayed: "HD-Ausland", the rest were mildly (? = as if one can be "mildly" sick; one is either sick or healthy) bis severely displastic or were never x-rayed. Taking into account that only 33,23 % of the 554.596 GSD's (the Elite) have been x-rayed - and allthough knowing that a lot of bad results are withheld by breeders and people who of course don't bother to send the bad results in for registration - some might come to the conclusion, that the 57,24% of this x-rayed population receiving the "HD-1" result is a wonderful statistic accomplishment of the breeders. I would say, they are playing with numbers and merely manipulating the facts. I daresay, the problem of HD is bigger than ever. Vets and HD-commissions confirm this hypothesis. Action to be taken? Read my lips: All dysplastic dogs need to be banned from breeding. (Note: HD has practically been erased completely from the populations where this has been practised.) Imran Zia, I am very sorry to hear of your problem and would like to help you getting all the info you need.

By the way, your dog might have the best hips ever. The HD-ZW score you are giving says absolutely nothing about his own hips until you have him x-rayed and sent in the result to the SV. I suppose you're merely quoting the score based on ZW of his parents?

SGBH, My reasoning for using 95 as a high limit is to further reduce the chances of hip dysplasie-nothing more. I just will not breed to any dog that is higher than that. It's just a personal decision. Regards, Bob-O

Jantie: A few months ago you offered to help another helplessly confused Forum member ("Wy don't you name the dog, and I will provide you with all the info you need: HD-ZW of parents and the same of all of his littermates, aunts and uncles.") I am trying to find the Zuchwert on four dogs and I don't understand the information I get from the SV when I enter their names. Would you be willing to help me as you did the above person or point me in the right direction to find out this information. Thanks, Molly

Molly, feel free to contact me for info. PS - make sure the spelling is correct when you look up the ZW. Enter either just the dogs first name (Hundename) or just the dogs kennel name (Zwinger) or the dogs SZ number (SZ-Nummer). Then search for the dog within the list that comes up. If a dog has been outside of Germany, used for breeding there but not been a-stamped, it will not have a ZW. Only dogs with a passing a-stamp are listed on the SV site.

Can you please give me the website to get the ZW scores of some of the dogs in my own dog's pedigree, apologies I am sure I have seen it on this database, but should have written it down? Tried a-stamp etc on google but am getting nowhere, thanks.
