Yea its good for people to get a dog from a rescue but without breeders we would have nothing but mixed breeds. Maybe if people were smarter they would buy from only reputable breeders.
Puppy mills and breeders of designer mutts are the real reason so many dogs die. Buying from a breeder who breeds purebreds is a good thing.
I wish all the breeders of real purebreds would come together to make it illegal to breed two dogs together who are of different breeds.

I don't believe that's a PETA commercial.
It's not over the top it's absurd.
GS4All,

TAMPAGSD and Moons- I didn't say is was a commercial. Hell at least I hope it isn't that is horrible!! Could you imagine some little kid seeing that!! No it was something a friend sent me from You Tube. You wouldn't believe the crap they have one their.Wether it is real PETA people or people making them out to look that bad( of course I can see them being like that) but that is just bad!
GS4all-hmmm don't know that what you said would be all the best cause if you think about it the pure breeds came from mixing dogs of other breeds to get say...a Dobe,GSD, Many Bull breeds have others crossed as well as hound dogs. I understand that the "designer" breeds ie.Labradoodle and every breed that is mixed with a poodle shouldn't be done. There are enough good breeds out there that we realllly don't need anymore intentionaly mixed dogs to create another "breed" There is where one of the problems lies. When I worked at the vet clinic there was a (very strange) couple that brought their poodle in to be bred with a golden that they had.Neither of them a good specimin of the breed. I couldn't believe it and bitched to my boss that it wasn't ethical and how could he condone it!!! Well $$ was how he was able to condone it. I told him to be prepared to see the puppies come in with one of the shelters we did neuters for. The poodle was a freak and since it was the female the pups would probably end up like her. Also AKC letter anything be registered. As in 2 goldens...doesn't mater if they are shit quality and poor health go ahead and register it and let people breed it. There needs to be some kind of control. How I don't know since it is the $$ that talks and that is why we will continue to be inendated with shelter dogs that need homes with bad temperaments cause the person that got it didn't know about the "breeds" it had behind it or how to deal with those breeds and couldn't care for it.

You said above that purebred dog breeders should get together and make breeding two different breeds together illegal...
There are two ways to do the breeding above, when you want to create a new breed. First, selecting awesome specimens of the breeds you are looking for, doing health screenings, and pursuing a goal for the breed.
I wonder what you would have said, back in the 1890's, when an arrogant German gentleman decided he wanted to create a new breed...There was no OFA, no SV, no Xrays for dogs. I'm too tired right now to dig up the details, but there were a lot of things that we have today that they didn't have then. I bet hip dysplasia wasn't nearly as common when that gentleman began looking for the dogs he needed to create the breed he envisioned. I bet you know who I'm talking about. Max von Stephanitz. The dogs that were selected to become this new breed of dog were themselves not even purebreds...Pedigrees weren't the rage in those days...Working ability was.
I don't think that creating new breeds is a bad thing, but the breeding of just any two dogs for puppies to sell, IS a bad thing. There are certain things that have to be done in the creation of a new breed, and if money is a factor, it's off on the wrong foot. Just my opinion.

Just watched the video above....Anyone still want to donate money to PETA to end suffering?

This issue is one that is near and dear to me, and one of the reasons why I absolutely detest the "Animal Rights" movement. These people do not shed a tear for the death of any creature on this earth...Not human, not animal. Humans are cancers...Domesticated animals are slaves that should be freed through death, rather than given a good, happy home. PETA fleeces people out of millions of dollars every year and dumps that money into legislation to force mandatory spay and neuter, high fees to keep animals, and a laundry list of other things that strip away the rights of humans. And the pet owning populace blindly flocks to their banner, swayed by the films and the flyers used. They are swayed by the bloody kittens, and the poor puppies..
If the fools could only open their eyes and see that their money goes to end the lives of animals, and thus, their suffering, I bet PETA's funding would dry up overnight. I hope people see before it's too late, that PETA is a death cult obsessed with freeing animals from slavery by death.
