Is there a set precedence to the order of the initials after a dogs name on his pedigree or name listing? IE....BH,AD,CGC...etc  Thanks

Is there no order or does it not matter? surely someone here....knows? Does it matter if SV or AKC or any other titles come in any specific order?

 MaxBear,

It does matter to some officianados. In SV style, the conformation rating is first, then the name of the dog, and then titles. However, by titles I am talking about Schutzhund titles and herding (HGH).  So, as an example, my beloved dog Donni who has passed on is listed on my web pages as:

V Donna von der Biberfalle, SchH3, KKL1 Lebenzeit

Note that one does not write the BH, AD, other earlier SchH titles like SchH1 or 2. I also often added OFA status or "a" stamp status because most people want that information. And some people will add a BH in the appropriate place after the dog name if no SchH title has been earned but the BH has been completed. In SV conformation shows, this is the format.

I cannot speak to the AKC or the way that others do it. Sometimes people just list virtually everything the dog has ever done, but I consider that rookie stuff because if a dog has, for example, a SchH3, it is understood the dog achieved the BH, SchH1 and 2. If they have a KKL, it is also understood that they have completed the AD, have some conformation rating (which usually is listed at first as in the example above) or they have a HGH.

It is like listing ones educational credentials. If one has a Masters degree, one normally does not list B.A. or B. S. also unless they are in a different field and relevant. The same would go for an earned doctorate. Then one would not list a Masters degree which is understood.

Does that help?

Thanks Hodie.....that explains the SV side of things and I gather the AKC would do similiar. I was researching many GSD's the other evening and noticed that many were in different order and some all inclusive, some not. When the GSD had both SV and AKC titles some had a mixture....so I was trying to figure what was the "Proper" way...if there was one....Thanks again.

In AKC it is typical to also drop the previously earned titles (ex: If you have earned a CDX, drop the CD, etc) and the titles are generally placed in the order they were achieved.

Actually, for AKC titles, the initials before the name are championships and the initials after the name are performance titles, which are listed in the order that AKC recognized the event.  Rally is an exception because although a new titling event, it gets grouped with obedience.
