Does anyone have any experience trialing and/or attending a seminar under SV Judge (Belgium) Vic Wilms?

by VomMarischal on 26 February 2010 - 22:02

Me. He scared the living sh!t out of me. And I failed!

by hodie on 26 February 2010 - 22:02

I do not know Mr. Wilms personally, but he makes a practice of emailing clubs and asking to be invited to judge. He emailed our club many times without solicitation. I am not sure if he is an SV judge anymore, but I think complaints were lodged against him for his unwanted solicitations. I think he likes to travel..."-). He may be a fine judge. I cannot speak to that issue.

He also gave me a long lecture about my dog, specifically that she was gunshy and should never be bred. Well...that dog and I went out shooting squirrels all the time and she never spooked (she just ate everything I shot). She did spook that trial day, as did I. Oh well.

I have done helper work at a trial he judged and have shown dogs under him. I have always found him to be fair and conducted himself as a professional, with a wealth of knowledge that he is willing to pass on as well as helping people as much as possible. JMO.

As for whether he likes to travel, what food he likes, what he drinks, etc I have no idea.

You guys are really kinda funny! LMAO

Hey, it's definitely true that it's easy to spook ME on trial day.

by hodie on 26 February 2010 - 23:02

Let me clarify and add to what I said above. Other than the fact that he tries to get invited and that is unsolicited and not appreciated by some, I have NEVER heard that he is unfair or anything other than a nice man and competent judge. I also know, from speaking with him personally, that unlike some SV judges, he is happy to stay in a home if given a modicum of privacy and decent room etc. So that is a plus for him.

I attended a trial under Mr. Wilms where two of our club members were getting their BH. He was incredibly kind and fair, and actually I found him to be very friendly. Maybe you caught him on an off day? He also seemed to be very fair for the SchI dogs. Anyway, he also gave a bit of a seminar and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing him speak. No negative comments at all from me. :-) our club members were very nervous too! ;-) Theresa

Hodie's statements are accurate.  He was notorious for soliciting judging assignments.  I know of no other judges who do/did this.   Otherwise, he is a fair and accurate judge.  He is usually quite personable, very friendly and his English is excellent.
