I was wondering how important dentition is when considering breedworthiness? Are there times when missing teeth would be overlooked in favor of other redeeming qualities in the dog?

I think my dog is missing teeth. Someone translated what was written in his pedigree about an old dog from the 40's,a DDR dog and it said it was missing a tooth. I can't help but think it is connected. So, what happens to a dog that is missing a tooth? Has the opinion on missing dentition changed over time?

I THOUGHT THIS WAS ABOUT DETENTION. WHERE YOUR PUT WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN NAUGHTY. WHERE BEETREE SPANKS AND TIES YOU UP AND STUFF..........................MY BAD.

You sweet talker you! Have Dinky give you a nibble from me. I must admit these commercials and ads with dogs with people teeth are beginning to creep me out. Enough already. Don't tell me Dinky keeps his in a jar by the bed...

Ronnie, don't make me go there, I just wrote a great reply but it was definitely a rated R, with some kinky references in the content response, so I had to delete it.

Beetree,
There are rules about what teeth and in what combination teeth can be missing and still get a breed survey rating. The optimum is, of course, all teeth present. If you want the exact rules, email me if no one posts them here. They are a little long and I would want to double check them before posting from memory.
In my opinion, yes, there are other mitigating factors that MAY override missing teeth, especially because there are multiple causes for missing teeth (and I am not talking injury). The best of all possible worlds would be that every dog would be perfect. But it is not so. I believe one must look at the whole dog, and if the dog brings something really important in working ability, for example, and everything else is fine and the dog is missing premolars, for example, I would consider breeding that dog. If the pups had missing teeth, then I would not ever breed the dog again, but that is my opinion and others will disagree.
Regards to you!!

Thanks Hodie,
I think you about covered it for me, I'm not breeding or anything, so I don't need exact rules. I just can't help these questions popping up in my head sometimes. lol
Any progress on selling any of your big ticket items? If not, have you considered talking to an auction house? I do like to watch "Cash in the Attic" sometimes.
