Because it's against the Terms of Service, or has become nasty, and thus is abusive of the site?
Which thread are you talking about?
Nearly any thread can be deleted if enough folks find it offensive and report it so.

I'd venture to guess that people don't like reading the "N" & "C" words over & over again from the same derelict.
Although some of the biggest cry babies here apparently condone it. Evidently Oli doesn't, and he gets the final say. Good job Oli.

"Probably because "some" people continually hit the Abuse Button and report something that they don't agree with.."
Yeah, we don't agree with people who REPEATEDLY violate the TOS, and that bugs MaggieMae SO MUCH because it's pretty much all she does, so she hates it when her violations get reported.
In addition, there are a lot of boards that delete threads all the time - it's simply a question of server capacity. Old threads and Off Topic threads are the first to go. Why wouldn't OT threads be cleaned out first, no matter what the OT was? That simply makes sense.
And lycanlou, people disagree on here all the time. All the time. The Abuse Button reports are for TOS violations, not differences of opinions, and MaggieMae knows it.

GTR,
Oli explained it once, that if he banned the offenders, they would just be forced to sign in under a new screen name. At least this way, through one's own prior experience, one can know which posters to just avoid. It is not a perfect set up, true, but there is a certain sense to it.
There is software that can take out a person's vowels in their postings, I'm thinking that might be an interesting way to go for here.

I think the lunatics can get into anyones head sooner or later.
Anything to stop the buzzing.
Now if Oli could just fix the redirect feature,
and add some security to the actual database, the site may survive another day.
I for one would love to see a real-time chat-room added to the site, wouldn't that be fun....
That might free up the message board a bit.
Could add much more traffic and increase revenue.
But of course there would still be cry babies who would find something to bitch about.
Such is life,
