The vet can check if the testicle is in the canal or not. If the testicle is there it might be an idea to give him massage and vitamin E. If the testicle's not there it is nothing to do. Good luck and a Merry Xmas!

Have the pup sit on the edge of a table with the tail hanging down and so that there is enough room to reach under the dog from between his legs and up its belly. Put the index finger and the ring finger of the same hand on the belly with the dogs penis inbetween. With gentle pressue push the hand/fingers back towards the tail right alongside the penis. The dog needs to remain seated while you do this since in this position he cannot pull the testicles up inside the body. As you come towards the tail a retained testicle should push out and you can then feel them both. If that is the case keep doing this once a day until the dog is at least 6 months old. After6months of age the tissue surrounding the testicle should have closed enough, keeping it outside the body. If you cannot feel the second testicle that way, chances are it will not materialize any more. In that case you could try hormone injections to see if that brings the missing testicle down, personally I would advise against treating such a young dog that way though... No male pup is a stud dog prospect at puppy age. Have to see first how he develops. From your description though, having all the family jewels may not even be worth the worry?

Yes, you can check it out yourself, but that isn't easy, but you can try to find it in the canal, it's always easiest to let a vet check it out.
E-vitamin is an old aadvice I got from a breeder, I don't know if it works but it is always worth a try. Good luck!

why try to get the testical down? neuter him when old enough and have done with it if not returning to the breeder? Why bother getting it down he is not for breeding?

Cryptorchidism (undescended testes) is an autosomal recessive trait in dogs.Cryptorchids, therefore, are a breed fault according to SV.If the testes is not descended at about 3 months, chances are they will not. Most of them get stuck in the inguinal canal (usual reason is a short gubernaculum or "rudder", an embryonic structure that guides the testes into the scrotum).Other reasons are small inguinal canal or ectopic migration of testes into the abdominal cavity.Rarely, the testes on one side never develops (agenesis).Hormones like chorionic gonadotropin can facilitate descent of an undescended testes, if you can feel it in the inguinal canal, as described by another member above. If you can feel it and "milk" it down to the scrotum, doing it on a daily basis can sometimes facilitate descent. Most importantly, if the dog testes does not migrate and stays in the abdominal cavity, IT HAS TO BE SURGICALLY REMOVED- or else it turns malignant.Note that if the testes descends by hormone injection or by surgical placement into the scrotum, it is still considered to be a breed fault (because of the recessive trait) and the dog is not fit for breeding.I don't think there is any restriction for these dogs to participate/compete in the schutzhund arena.I am not totally sure about this- other experienced members can correct me if i am wrong.
Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Forgot to add- E-Vitamin is voo-doo medicine. Does not work for undescended testes. Too much of Vit E, on the other hand, can be harmful to dogs, just like other fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, K because the body cannot eliminate any excess like it can do with water soluble vitamins (B-complex, C etc.,).Best.
