I prefer HomeAgain chips because of their bioadhesive quality. Of all my animals, the ones who have HomeAgain chips are in the same place they were inserted. The Avid chips are at various locations, one in my cat's armpit. Really useful.

Anyway...I was asked not to chip one puppy from the last litter because a specific type of chip had to be used for entering into certain shows/events/trials.

Does anyone know if there is one type of chip that is acceptable for all or at least most of what (logically) these pups will be entered in?

So, while I have my preference, I might as well make things easier on the buyers if I can, so if HomeAgain is a bad choice, please let me know a better one. Thanks.

Jenni,

I will try to look up you ad, but any chance you can post a link. I have heard others talk about it and would love to see it, too.

Jenni, I might expressed myself wrong about the chipping. There is no specific chip required to enter any trial here in the US. I wanted to use an ISO chip on Apache because I do own an ISO scanner and this one is unable to pick up other chips. Tonga is ISO chipped. Some clubs do own their own scanner, but mostly one is required to provide one's own. The ISO chip is the one used in Europe, and from my understanding is now required there regards to identification when passing any borders. I wanted to keep the option open for sending my dogs for breeding, training or trials.... without having to worry about double chipping. The ISO chip as well comes with a lost/found database. Newer scanners will pick up on all 3 types of chips, if not the numbers, then at least indicate that there is a chip present. The scanners are still very pricy.

Ok, Elkoorr, so you were worried about them not being able to scan them overseas? I thought you meant there was a concern w/them HERE. I was under the impression that just about every scanner can pick up HomeAgain's frequency, so I was surprised.

That makes a lot more sense then. I will just go ahead and continue to use the HomeAgain chip then. Thanks.

DO NOT USE AVID!!

An e-friend had a horrible experience when a dog wandered onto her property last weekend. It had a tag for an AVID chip, so she called what she THOUGHT ws the number on the chip. It had been disconnected. (It turned out the phone number on the tag was badly printed, and the actual number was one digit different from what she thought she saw.)

She then checked online, and found the AVID website. She could not find a number to call, only an e-mail address to report the missing dog.

Now, this lady designs websites for extra income, and is extremely computer literate. (She's mainly a writer, though.) She persisted, and eventually, under the UK website for AVID, found a link to a number for the U.S.A.!

DISGRACEFUL!!

One of my dogs has AVID. The other two have M4S. One of the M4S chips has wandered quite some distance from where it was inserted.

I think the AKC website will tell you which microchips are acceptable for dogs registered with them.

Sunsilver, did you read my post? I was looking for an alternative to HomeAgain **IF** there is a problem w/certain clubs/events/registries and HomeAgain. Like I said, I won't use Avid b/c my cat's Avid chip is in her armpit, and the other one w/an Avid chip is halfway down its spine. They suck.
