I know there are many breeders on here, and some who breed a lot.  Has anyone looked into, or better yet tried, this product?

It is an ovulator detector. Wouldn't that pay for itself (assuming it works) in terms of progesterone tests breeders would not need to do?

I've seen it used. One person who has one swears by it.

I just keep using the qualitative progesterone kit from Camelot Farms because I'm comfortable with it. When using this test, every bitch bred to my two studs has conceived with natural breedings.

The supposed "downfall" of it is that it's not measuring any chemical change-only the electrical changes that *usually* occur right around the time of ovulation. Most places I've seen it don't even call it an ovulation detector for that reason. I know someone who breeds foxes who does use it and says it works, though I looked around for info on it a few weeks ago when Capri surprised me 2mos early w/blood on the carpeting, and I couldn't find much on it. I ended up just getting a smear done by a GOOD tech who knows how to read them properly and getting her right to the stud.

Nia, how much is this? I didn't see the price.

I had to click on "Buy" to find out.   395 Euros.   Quite a hefty price, unless you breed  a lot.

Just talked to my friend who owns one, and he paid way more than that many years ago. Could be they've fine-tuned it and found a way to produce it cheaper, or gotten some competition. His setup ran into the thousands.

The nice thing is you own it and you can test 2x a day and get a good baseline, as opposed to dragging her into the vet for progesterone tests, which are no good if you don't have a baseline.

What ever happened to the good old fashioned testers that had two testicles and a nose?  I have a tester/teaser/pleaser all in one machine.
No, I'm kidding I know that breeders ship semen and timing is important, I just was adding a little humor to the thread.

LOL. I agree. They are never wrong. The only issue is shipping her, shipping semen, etc., as you stated. But I much prefer your way! ;-)

A friend had one for sale and I thought about buying it so she loaned it to me  But my bitches HATED it, saw me coming and either took off  or sat on thier little tushy and refused to stand up. The few times I did actually manage to insert it they went crazy and I thought they would injure themselves so I returned it. Depending on your bitches you may require a competent person to hold while you do the test.

The good old progesterone test for my girls.
