Elizabeth, the owner of Candlehill Shepherds, is a fine woman and incredibly knowledgeable about Shepherds. We got our Stella from Candlehill and she is everything Elizabeth promised she would be. Stella loves children, other dogs, responds to food treats, is easily trained, is driven, smart, and fearless. Stella is a fine example of the breed.

You get what you pay for and you will not be disappointed with a Candlehill pup.

The dog is a sweetie, the training is lacking. Or is the dog supposed to duck and flatten its ears, lag behind on the lead and be hand shy? And they say show line people dont know much about obedience? I would be ashamed if my dog reacted that way whilst training. Its spelt FUN and PATIENCE.

zacsmum..... I was thinking the same thing.... ears flat, tail tucked, hand shy.... looks like A LOT of impulse was put on that dog. the tail was so tight on her rear, I couldn't help but cringe.

Regarding Beau, the dog shown in the video... Beau is my dog and I can give a little insight into his demeanor. But first let me say Elizabeth is a fantastic person to work with and her breeding program is the best of the best. Go to the Candle Hill website and look through the photos and testamonials to see what I mean. I will go back to her when I get my next puppyl Second, Neumann K-9 Training is an excellent training academy and I would refer anyone to them without hesitation.
About Beau - he was only six months old when training took place. Beau is a strong dog in every sense of the word and training him was no walk in the park - even for Josiah. Beau has a wonderful temperment and perfect confirmation, but doesn't always want to do what is expected of him. The reason his ears lay flat, etc., is probably because he was a bit intimidated by Josiah as he was not about to let him get away with disobedience. Josiah worked miracles with my dog and returned a well-behaved seven-month old pup to me. At 17-months of age, he is still strong willed and tests me sometimes, but he is perfect as far as I am concerned; and he is the fifth German Shepherd I have raised. Hope this clears things up a bit.

I checked the site and have not seen any of her dogs held back, trained and titled... sooo...  I am a big fan of people who keep their own stock and do something with it!

Good luck

The dog in that video has a soft temperment or has been trained with a heavy hand. If I sent my dog away for training and it was returned to me like that, someone would be picking there teeth up off the ground.

for what its worth this is a young dog with 4 weeks of training. The main concern of the owner when she brought him to us was for her to be able to walk him on leash and not have him pull. He was not here for flashy competitive style heeling - it was not what the owner wanted because its just not practical for day to day walks. The owner got what she wanted in the amount of time we had to work with the dog and is satisfied with the results. Is it perfection? or is that our showcase ob video? absolutely not. I was reluctant to post and now regret it but hey they can't all be winners all the time. Internet bullies aren't going to ruin my day.

As far a judging the nerves or temperament of the dog. He had low to moderate drives, strong independent temperament and over all relatively balanced. I personally would not be interested in using him for competition or breeding but he was sold as a companion dog and is doing exactly that. I'd like to invite his owner Susan to come to our place  this fall for a CGC evaluation. We'll try to get video of that and post an update, perhaps we'll be able to change your minds about the training & dog after all. Until then happy training!
