IF anyone thinks they can help, please PM me here and I can put you in contact with the woman who found this dog. Apparently it has been injured and is very thin. The vet wants to put it down, the people cannot keep or pay for the care of the dog, and I cannot help. If there is anyone in Eastern Nebraska who would like to help, please contact me ASAP and I will get you two people together.
"I am looking for help for a beautiful German Shepherd. About three weeks ago she found her way on our farm and she didn’t look to good. What I am guessing happened to her is that someone dumped her about a mile or so away and she got her foot stuck in a trap so when she got here she was very emaciated and missing part of a leg. I have exhausted all my efforts here in east Nebraska where I live. There are few rescues around this area. I had called the local vet and he wanted to put her down. Now my husband is giving me one week to do something with her and if I can’t then he is going to call the vet. We would keep her and get her the help she needs but we have four cats, two dogs, a three year old daughter, and a baby on the way with a limited income since my husband is in college. She has been through so much and I believe she deserves a chance. "

Hodie,
I am not clear on how close they are, but Mississippi Valley GSD Rescue may be able to help. I think Jeff Govednik has the contact info.

Can you post a picture?

The person who contacted me is in Lyons, Nebraska. She says that Lyons is about 50 miles north of Omaha on hwy 77. The photo I have seen is probably from American lines. The woman says she thinks the dog is relatively young, 2-3 years.

I have some additional information. The dog is missing a leg already. They think she was caught in a trap, but it could have been her leg was injured so badly being hit by a vehicle and she ended up chewing it off. In any case, a vet has said it is healing ok, but needs a skin graft. I am trying to find out whether the vet there can do that and what it would cost. If no one is able to step up and adopt the dog however, or take it in the short term, there is no point in trying to get donations to cover her wound care.
I have had one person offer to help with a donation, but so far, no takers for the dog. According to the woman who has her, she is a sweet dog.
Any ideas? I cannot accept her as I am barely able to feed the dogs here. And just this week alone, have turned down 4 GSDs whose owners want to dump them. This includes a man who has a 1.5 year old GSD and now they have decided they will travel in a 5th wheel and don't want the dog. The breeder, of course, a Colorado breeder, won't take the dog back or help.

BUMP.....
Folks, if you know anyone in the area of Eastern Nebraska or adjacent states who might be able to take this dog, please contact me. The in laws are insisting the woman take the dog and have it put down. I know we cannot save every dog but it seems a shame to let this one down when the woman has tried so hard to help the dog. I think she has the weekend to place the dog or her husband will put it down.

I sent an email to Missouri GSD Rescue in the hopes they know someone who can help.

Thanks Debi. I think time is running out so please let me know if you get a response. Steph in Montana said she would take her, but getting the dog there would be probably impossible. And Steph, good as her heart is, has enough to do already with the GSDs in Montana.
