UPDATE ON MAULING
This was also posted on a Jackson, MS TV website following a story concerning the mauling death of a 6 year old child by a stray dog being described as a "pit bull". However, the story later developed that there were 5 other strays there also and no eye witnesses to the actual attack. They are running DNA on suspicious dog and if guilty he will be killed and owner brought up on criminal charges.
I found it interesting, although I'm not sure why they left out number 3.
Study that appeared in APPLIED ANIMAL BEHAVIOR SCIENCE
Most Aggressive Dogs:
1. Dachshund
2. Chihuahua
3. (Left Blank)
4. Akita
5. Australian Cattle Dog
6. Pit Bull
7. Beagle
8. English Springer Spaniel
9. Border Collie
This is where the list stops. But its pretty interesting to say the least.

I have seen pics of the dead child from different articles I found on Google. She was a very beautiful little girl. I would really refer to the child as a baby, since she was hardly more than a toddler. How is it a precious little girl like this, is allowed to get out of earshot? I'm certain she was screaming for her life. It's beyond tragic.
How does anyone know that a group of dogs didn't attack the little girl. I could see a group of dogs begin nipping at her, and then if she whimpered or cried, the attack would escalate. Of course this scenario could happen with just one dog as well.
The dog or dogs responsible should be culled, as well as anyone who would allow such dogs to roam loose.
I went to a weight training forum I frequent, and I found this ad. Some Peddler breeding crosses for $600. The same thing is for sale on my local Craigslist for $500 cheaper.

Remember the woman in San Francisco who was killed (partially eaten) by a Presa Canario owned by her attorney neighbors Robert Noel and Marjorie Knoller? They were in business with their client Cornfed (who they adopted) in a super-max prison in No Cal (Pelican Bay) breeding these dogs.

They were selling the pups to guard drug dealers
I was sitting at a restaurant eating outside with my two shepherds and a guy came walking along with one of them. They are very distinctive. He had the dog off leash and it was ignoring him. Needless to say, I did what I had to do to prevent him from walking by. It is really scary to see one up close.
Craigslist does not allow selling animals. Just click on Prohibited behavior.

Michele, none of the thousands of dogs on Craigslists around the country are for sale. There is simply a "Rehoming Fee".

My daughter pet sitted for a rescue, dachshund. she was told he can not get along with big dogs. Well her 2 gsd's were not thrilled with the little bugger. Was really funny, they picked him up and the rescue gave her his "stroller" to walk him in. He was a spolied one, wanted to be carried everywhere. took about 5 days and he learned to go for a walk, was so funny, he would "strut" between the 2 GSD's, like look at me I got my friends with me. He went after one of her guest one night and as he ran buy barking up a storm, the female GSd put her paw out on top of him and pushed him to the floor and would not let him up until he calmed down, last time he pulled that one, was so funny, the shock in his eyes and the look of bordom in hers.

Abhay, not surprisingly, my thoughts exactly! The day my 6yr old is so far away w/no supervision that I (or another responsible adult) doesn' hear them being KILLED BY A DOG/DOGS is the day hell freezes over.
I would bet more than one dog had a part in it, as well. All 5 should've been picked up and tested, if possible.
TO SAY PIT BULLS DID THIS IS SO UNFAIR. MOST PEOPLE WILL NOT EVER LOOK INTO THE REAL STORY AND THIS WILL BE JUST ONE MORE SAD PIT BULL STORY.
Michele, what is "really scary to see up close?" I didn't understand what you meant.

There is an excellent book called Fatal Dog Attacks where the author reviews all the statistics from the CDC. A quote from the author:
"My study of fatal attacks occurring over the past five decades has identified the poor ownership/management practices involved in the overwhelming majority of these incidents: owners obtaining dogs, and maintaining them as resident dogs outside of the household for purposes other than as family pets (i.e. guarding/ protection, fighting, intimidation/status); owners failing to humanely contain, control and maintain their dogs (chained dogs, loose roaming dogs, cases of abuse/neglect); owners failing to knowledgably supervise interaction between children and dogs; and owners failing to spay or neuter resident dogs not used for competition, show, or in a responsible breeding program. (See Chapter 14 of THE PIT BULL PLACEBO, “The Real Causes for Dog Attacks,” for a more detailed discussion.)"

I want to know what's going to happen to the owners of the dogs that were all running loose - probably nothing. I always get upset about this kind of stuff because I have been charged more than once by aggressive, loose dogs while walking with my kids in the stroller. Thank goodness I always had my GSDs with me who, without prompting, put themselves between the other dogs and the kids. Usually there was an incompetent owner saying "oh, he loves kids" while the dog has its hackles raised, is charging stiff legged, and snarling. I carry pepper spray and a cell phone on all our walks now, just in case.

I can't claim to being the original person who posted this, but it is still the greatest list of 10 most dangerous breeds.
