Finally, we got Echo tattooed. She fought the anesthesia but did come out of it ok. I on the other hand, found it traumatic.

Aneshtesia? I'm curious? My tatooer doesn't use it, and I've held the dogs/pups. (without drama or trauma)
New idea......that's all. I dislike any "put em' under" ideas. One of my pups replaced a pup (purchased elsewhere) that at 6 months was going for a spay, and never got up! They were devastated naturally. I was glad to be able to have a pup for her when she was ready. I asked that she wait a full year or 1 1/2 years before that procedure, which she did. I know I'm going off course here, but ......... Trish :)

Thanks Crys.
Trish,
I was torn, believe me. I'm all for getting it done when they are little but Echo's breeder didn't do it (doesn't have a clue really) and I didn't realize until late that we would need it to ID her on the field (I didn't plan on Schutzhund, it just kinda came about). I wanted the Vet to tattoo her without it but at the same time I didn't want her hurt and I know how she fights when she feels like she needs to. I was afraid we would end up with a torn ear and a bit Vet so I gave the ok. I was in there with her and helped the Vet when needed. I have two people very close to me who lost their dogs, one a spay the other a simple procedure to remove a cyst on the scalp so I was sweatin it. I was amazed to see her seemingly dead to the world but when the Vet clamped down on her ear she reacted! She was fighting even then. Once we put her down on the floor to recover it was rodeo time. She growled, thrashed and her feet were constantly moving until she got her head clear. I kept talking to her, holding her so she didn't bang her head on the floor and when she finally recognized my voice she calmed down but her feet kept going. The Vet said it was unusal to see a dog fight the anesthesia like she did. In a few minutes she was up and walking like a drunk but headed right to the Vet to let him know she had no hard feelings. I'm just glad that's over!
