I'm posting this on the General Topic board, for those of you who don't consider the American GSD as a GSD anymore.

An older lady I know was watching the GSDs at Westminister, and taking notes. She started to write 'old, grey-haired guy', then did a double-take.

The 'old grey-haired guy' was none other than Jimmy Moses!!    ROTFLOL!!

And, of course, he took BOB and placed 4th in group with Ch Kridler's Nutmeg V Signature, a bitch out of  Ch Kridler's Tanzanite V Signature and sired by  Ch Kenlyn's Aries V HiCliff.

If anyone's interested, here are some links:

My friend, who remembers Jimmy when he was literally a kid, is feeling rather old herself today...

I saw Moses at the Canadian Nationals a couple of years ago, and he had a very large number of dogs with him, as well as a large number of young handlers he was training. If you look at the names of the entries, you can see his kennel has been very busy with breeding as well.

He did miss Westminister last year, but was there in both 2008 and 2007.

It was either 2007 that I watched it...and maybe even in 08.I was in Kentucky then.I think I had my mom watch it with me and she asked what is wrong with their legs.lol She isn't even a dog person really.I have brought her to the SchH Nationals in Nashville one year.I knew people there and she was saying things a bit out loud like" that dog isn't in the blind barking good enough" and "It looks a bit nervy to me" cracked me up cause she was actually right. Bad thing was the guy that had the dog is a TOP competitor and his friend was sitting right next to us.lol I love my mom she just says it like it is....hmmm maybe that is where I get it from.lol

Yes, these are all American line GSDs. They are quite different from the German dogs, and some people would like to see them be considered a different breed. The wording of their standard is slightly different from the SV standard, but not all THAT much different.

IMO, the German showlines no longer look like the standard either...

No Sun they don't...no "show" line looks like the standard or any variation of the standard.I have to say thinking of all the breeds out there....Dobe,Rott,Boxer,Akita....the GSD has split off and deviated from what it was originaly more then ANY other breed I can think of.Granted the AKC show Dobes might be a little more narrow in the skull and a bit more refined looking but it hasn't split off that much in structure as the GSD.The Rott....same.Can you think of any other breed that has been structurly changed from what it's standard was from the creator? I know the Dobe has a bit from what Louis Dobermann had it but for the most part....it is the same

I don't know many other breeds well enough to comment, but I am sure there are some. For instance, one person who used to post here frequently used to breed and show Siberian huskys. She said they were breeding the show dogs with such short muzzles some of them couldn't even keep their tongues inside their mouths. There were other changes too which I don't remember that were destroying the show dog's ability to do the work they were originally bred for.

She got out of the breed...

There's a reason most sled dogs are mixed breeds.

If I could 'tilt at windmills' as Prager put it, and take on the breed organizations, I'd make it a rule that any changes which comprimised a dog's ability to do the work for which it was originally bred would be SEVERELY PENALIZED in the show ring.

That's what is needed to keep dog breeds from being destroyed.

WOW didn't know that about the Malamutes!! It's bad enough that the wildlife has to be ruined cause man...humans but to have our domestic animals be ruined as well...it is truly a sad thing.
