The Standard, Definition?
A basis for comparison; a reference point against which other things can be evaluated. This is the definition of the standard.
Who is the guardian of the standard the S.V. ?. I would answer that with "We all are" It,s obvious that the S.V. has several standards it judges by just look at the awarded dogs, each judge that includes all judges through out the organizations pick in wild fashion that which should be judged by the standard.
In all honesty who really doesn't think this dog is first and for most a working dog? The originator of the breed pretty much declared that the dog should first and for most be judged as a working dog and for his trouble what has the breed gotten? a watered down version of a breed worthiness test that is judged so liberally and based on such defined obedience that you no longer can use it for a tool but a novelty of it,s original purpose.
We as breeders of working dogs must always remember that proper qualities are our standard for working we as breeders must work our dogs above the trial field criteria to make the point. Lets work above the bar other then with it or below it if our breed is to thrive and survive as a working dog able to be ready for task,s appointed to it.

to many peoples dissapointment the guardian of the STANDARD is the SV! After all it is named a GERMAN SHEPHERD!
