Hi
Someone gave me an excellent link last year when I was trying to condition for the AD
And my friend in Alabama he wants to start conditioning his dog on the bike and I told him I would try to find out what the link was.
Sorry I can't find it.
If anyone has that info will you post it for me.?
Thank You!

I don't know which specific link you're looking for but there's a reasonable schedule here: www.siriusdog.com/ausdauerprufung-ad.htm .  I find it helpful to have a speedometer/odometer on my bike.  The only problem I've encountered has been raw feet from running on asphalt but have always been able to successfully remediate it using a product called Tuf-Foot.  Good luck!

I bet thats it
I don't know why I thought it was working dog outfitters.
I really appreciate it thanks.

I found that the gradual conditioning of the link given didn't cause any problems with sore feet from asphalt, which is where I had to do most of my conditioning, although I did make an effort to get to dirt roads and grass so not every session was on asphalt.

Agree with the speedometer/odometer.  At first I simply used the Timer feature on my cell phone; I did a lot of conditioning in a Business Park - the main road is exactly one-half mile and is not perfectly flat; also used a dirt track at a local high school.  Finally went to the local bike shop and got a speedometer/odometer.  MUCH easier than having to stick to areas I could drive first to measure distances, and of course great for checking your speed - slow & steady, sprints, etc.

I got an AD on my black GSD a long time ago.We never really trained for it.I just kept him fit and we took walks every day for miles.I should have conditioned myself more....well at least got a more comfortable bike but it was lent to me last minute.Road with him the first time in the parcking lot of the hotel before we were supose to do the AD.lol He was fine, his feet were fine and even at the check out they were amazed that he wasn't panting that much.He just wanted to keep going. He was easy as he would stay next to me.The dog i have now...the crazy nut...tried to have him along side the bike and he just about killed me by pulling me off.I need a recumbent bike...the one with 3 wheels so he can't pull me over!!! Or to have him hooked to a cart(like sled dog trams use in summer for training) and have him pull that.Just don't know that they would allow that for the AD.

"I'm more worried about me completing than my dog."

LOL, I was, too, and actually had a 16yo young man on stand-by to ride the bike in case I had problems - I was worried about the heat  - but it went great for both of us.

There was a dog who "never really trained for it" when we did our AD; owner felt the dog was very fit as he was in SchH training and got plenty of exercise...after the first few Km this poor dog WALKED most of the distance, and when we went out of sight of the judges they cut the distance and turned around short.  Yes, the dog was given an AD that day.  Don't know why.

Yes, training the dog to trot comfortably along with the bike is much nicer than introducing them the morning of the AD in the parking lot.  I believe in conditioning and training as being most fair and beneficial to the dog.  I have a very strong dog who had to be taught the rules of bicycling - it's great now, though, and a wonderful way to keep him fit.

We already bike in the summer, just because I can't run fast enough to get Georgia really tired out.  We (I) just need to build up distance ability.
