Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, thought i'd introduce myself and my boy Tyson. My name is Leigh and I'm from Melbourne, Australia. Tyson is 13 and half months old, pure bred working line, he has an enxtremely high drive, he is also very vocal, terrotorial and dominant. I've done basic obediance training with him, and we are due to commence defence/attack protection training withing the next two weeks. Below are photos of him. Feedback would be apreciated on him and what you guys think of the defence training also. Cheers!

I met a trainer down at the beach the other week, and he saw tyson and was so impressed by his personality and drive. He convinced me to bring him to his training on his farm. Theyre not schutzand, he claims theyre into defense and guarding type training. where they teach the dogs to attack on command, with different scenarios.

Hi Leigh nice pictures!! Handsome dog. So you are going to do personal protection with him from what it sounds like. I was told by a friend that lives in Austrailia that you can't train dogs with any corection type collar. Is that true? If so how do you train then?

By correction collars i assume you mean chocker chains?? unfortunately in Australia there are two types of trainers. We have the trainers that train the small family conservative type dogs, that are against chockers and pritty much against anything that allows a dog to channel drive and agression. when i first got Tyson i was very inexperienced not that i;m an expert now, however i went to a trainer that was against choker chains, against schutzand and against protection training. their methods are discusting, they aim to capture the dogs drive and squash it. they see well trained dogs, as one that just sits there and shuts up.
I've been using a chocker chain i got from a trainer which he gets them imported from Germany. So to answer your question theyre are unfortunately to many trainers around here that are against challenging dogs. But we have german shepherds, we have working dogs, these dogs are bred to work, i want my dog to be full of energy and drive, unlike these conservative tainers.

Well my dog is well trained(although sometimes he refuses to let others believe that lol) and I used a prong collar. I am sure that some people over there would have a heartattack about that.He deffinitly doesn't just sit here and shut up.Some times I wish he would though.lol Choke chains and prongs don't nessisarly channel drive or aggression. They help to teach the dog what we are asking of them and make things more consistant (IMPO) then the gental leader.food or some of the other ways I have heard that they train there. My friend said that the Beagle they had was trained with food only.I asked what would he d if you asked it something and you didn't have food.He said it wouldn't listen. If i remember right the dog ran away.(probably looking for some more food.lol) I am glad that you can train with correction collars. What i was thinking is that you would go to jail if you used those methods. Told my friend I wouldn't be able to move there if I couldn't train the way I do.
Me and Dar.He was trained with a prong.
