Does anyone know of any good breeders for schutzhund that breed DDR and West German Working lines to get the "Ultimate Package?" Can you please tell me there website or kennel name. I how much work it is to own one of these dogs and how much you have to challenge them physically and mentally. I have researching for a long time and was hoping that one of you has the answer.

I breed DDR/West lines. LOVE the combo. I have two boys I kept out of my West female and DDR (Puck vom Grafental) and they are the best GSD's I've ever had. Will work like a house of fire, very even, confident...but settled and great boys at home. I agree with Gildaf, it is a great cross. I bred my Grafental female with a DDR male out of Lord vom Gleisdreieck, excellent cross, very stable temperments and great drive. Very great family companions a well as the love to work. I do belive that these dogs are excellent crosses with the best of both worlds behind them. Perhaps your correct about the specific line,
But the pitch is obvious.

Random, slightly OT:

I was told by someone (who argued with me until blue in the face and until I said - "I guess we will just have to disagree") that there is "no such thing as West Working lines!"

Therefore, I find this thread mildly humorous :)

I find it humorous when people who breed can't help but jump in on every thread and advertise their litters. If you have to try that hard to sell them, maybe you shouldn't be breeding them. Just a thought.

And this is a general statement, not directed partiularly at the breeders replying to this thread.

Putting CD's on dogs does not mean that they are working machines. The gene pool is so small for the DDR line dogs its hardly worth mentioning. You can find Lord in 4th or 5th Generation and a lot of dogs all going back one way or other to Don v Rolesteich ** spelling. I love the look of the old DDR dogs with big heads and bone but the one is see now just dint have the fight drive and natural aggression that you saw or hear about in the ones from the early 90's A lot of people on here claim the now DDR lines are good for search and rescue, but so are border collies and Golden's........ not knocking their dogs but you would think of an old DDR dogs as being border patrol man stoppers.. Just not seen anymore

chillmaster001, I have a West German and Czech bred dog and she's aweseome. However, it's not because of the breeding/bloodline. I could have found a dog like her in any number of breedings, as there are awesome dogs in many different combinations.

Uh, any dog with a decent amount of drive and intelligence needs to be challenged mentally and physcially. Not just the dogs from certain bloodlines or countries that you are attracted to.

Do you think this is a result of selective breeding against these traits? It seems to me every time a dog has natural aggression and fight, he/she gets passed over by a lot of trainers who only know how to work with prey monsters who have a less serious mentality toward bitework. These dogs look a lot flashier on the SchH field, and are easier to train w/toys, etc. The other issue I see is the pet people who love the LOOK of these dogs don't feel like dealing with what was initially proper temperament for them, so they water them down to make them act like Goldens, so they can all lounge around the living room together like a bunch of happy Labradors. Yuck.

You can still find dogs w/older lines if you look carefully, in all lines. I prefer older lines myself. I have a male w/Bernd Lierberg occurring several times between 6th-8th gen...which is kind of close considering there's almost a 40 year span. The same dog also goes back to Don Rolandsteich (correct spelling;-)) in gen. 3.
