Hi Everyone:
Our Schutzhund club will be holding a benefit on March 28th for the American Cancer Society. The date of the event will be March 28th, in Harleysville, PA. The exercises are listed below. Please contact me if interested. Registration forms will be available shortly on our clubs website.
Hope to see some of you there!
Exercise One: Highest number of retrieves
This exercise will measure the number of retrieves your dog can complete in a given amount of time. The judge will indicate handler to start at which time the clock will start. The handler must throw the ball past the indicated line in order for the retrieve to count. Handler can use as many voice or hand signals to call the dog back in order to throw the ball again. Once time is up, only balls that have been returned to the handler will count. The dog and handler with the highest number of retrieves will win this event. In the event of a tie, a retrieve off will take place to determine the winner. Time for this event is 3 minutes.
Exercise Two: Fastest Blind Search
Dog and handler will position themselves in between blinds # 1 and #2. At the signal from the judge to begin, the handler will send their dog to blind #1. The clock will begin once the handler signals their dog to begin. Handler will send dogs thru each blind 1 thru 6. All blinds must be searched in order to count. If your dog misses a blind you must signal the dog to search the missed blind, until the dog searches that blind. If a blind is completely skipped, then the dog and handler are disqualified and their time is not recorded. The dog and handler with the fastest time that completes all blind searches in order will win this event.
Exercise Three: Rocket Recall
This exercise will test the dog’s speed during a recall. Handler will sit dog at the designated area and either instruct the dog to stay or have someone restrain the dog and walk 50 paces across the field. At signal from the judge handler will call dog. Speed of dog will be measured by radar gun. Handler may use ball reward, treats, etc to get dog to return to them as fast as possible. Dog with fastest registered speed will win this event. It is not necessary for dog to sit in front of handler during this recall exercise. This event is to determine speed only.
Exercise Four: Highest number of barks during hold and bark
This exercise will count the number of barks a dog has during a hold and bark. The exercise will begin when the dog gets to the blind. Handler can direct dog around blind 5 first and then into blind 1 and or can send dog directly into blind 1, where the helper will be. The time will start when the dog arrives at the blind and at first bark. Hold and Bark will be timed for 1 minutes. Handler may encourage dog, but helper will be passive. The dog and handler team with the highest number of barks will win this exercise.
Exercise Five: Highest Jump
This exercise will measure jump height. An AKC bar jump will be used during this exercise. The bar will be set at a certain level. Each dog will have the opportunity to make a jump. If the dog refuses the jump, you can signal the dog 1 additional time. Dog and handler are disqualified if the dog refuses to jump the same height twice. Each dog that clears the jump without knocking the bar off will advance to the next round, where the bar will be raised. This process will be repeated until only one dog and handler are left. The dog that clears the highest will win this event.

Hi Molly:
Once we have it finalized we will send it out to all the clubs to invite and will make sure we get them to you.
Hopefully the weather will be great and we will get a good turn out. Lots of fun for all and for a great cause. Our GSD Team raised over $5,000.00 for the American Cancer Society last year and we added this event to our fundraising for 2010. We intend to video tape the event too.

Great idea!
Can you enter just selected events or does one sign up for all of them? We have no experience searching blinds but by golly, we do know our retrieves (only with balls, we've refused to learn dumbells), and boy howdy! we're fast on the recall!
Will you have the entry forms on your club's Website? Not everyone belongs to a club or organisation and would not get the info that way.

Hi Everyone:
We set it up that you can enter 1 event only, or with one dog or multiple dogs in multiple events. Our price structure will give a discount for enterring more than one event. We figured it is a great way to show off what your dog does great instead of having an over all winner of all events. My dog can do most of the exercises however she is not really fast. I purchased a radar gun to use for the rocket recalls, figuring it would be more fun measuring speed than time.
Once I have the registration forms finished, we will post on the Upper Bucks Schutzhund Club website under upcoming events and I will post a link to it on the database. People can feel free to contact me direct as well.
This is part of the bark for life we created 3 years ago as a spin off of the ACS - traditional Relay for life. A few of us kept saying how much more fun the relay would be if we could bring our dogs. The Bark for Life has become so successful that the ACS trademarked it in 2009 and now Barks are being held Nation wide. I am really proud of my club the way they have jumped in and are supporting such a great event.
Plus, it will be nice to meet up with some of the members of this board in person!
