Just curious how Nanuq is doing? I just found this board today and was reading your posts.
I'm so heartbroken. I found out today that our 7 year old golden has this type of cancer. She started vomiting about 2 wks ago. I took her in and they found a 5-6" mass on her spleen. They found no other tumors and bloodwork came back fine. So she had surgery to remove it. Once they removed it they found a tumor on her intestine. They did a biopsy and confirmed it's the aggressive cancer. She was our 1st baby before we had our 3 boys. We are so saddened. I can't stop crying. Doctor does not recommend chemo because she said it doesn't have good results. Right now she's acting fine.

So sorry for you and your dog. Sometimes all we can do is make them as comfortable as possible until they let us know it is time to go. My heart goes out to you and your "baby".

There's nothing harder than losing a member of the family and 7 is just too young. Cherish the time you have left, appreciate every hour. When it's time, send her to the bridge knowing she knows how much she's loved. So sorry.

We all share your pain.

I am so sorry. I know how you feel. I lost my beautiful Phantom (Phannie) to Osteosarcoma, a tumor in her pelvic bone. I did not go with the chemo and surgery to take a piece of it. There was little chance of success.
I invested my money in fentanyl patches and tramadol. I gave her gel caps with ginger to keep her stomach happy and allow her to enjoy her meals. Narcotics make he stomach queasy and suppress apetite. The Pharmacist told me about the Gingerforce Gelcaps, they were a miracle. I gave her people food, cat food, exotic canned foods and lots of variety. I needed strong flavors to stimulat her appetite and settle her stomach.
.
I tried to give her as much fun as possible. Eventually, the pain cannot be stopped. When that sad time occured, I too her to the Emergency Clinic. A good friend came with me. I brought Pharaoh, he was seven months old and loved Phannie like she was his mommy. She passed and he was curled up with her. He felt her leave and he started licking her eyes and her nose and her mouth. He put his front legs around her like a human would hug. He stayed like that for a while and then he got up and walked over to the door.
For several days he did not eat. But, then life goes on.
We both miss her a lot. She was a great big beautiful girl. She owns a piece of my heart forever.

Stay strong for Lucy and the children. Give her all the love you can. Sometimes that is all you can do.

Michelle, your story brought me to tears. What a beautiful send off Pharaoh gave your sweet Phantom. They do take a piece of them with us, don't they?
Lucysmomma,
Do what you know in your heart is right and let her go when the time comes. It's the kindest thing you can do even though your heart is breaking. We've all been there or will be there sooner than we care to think about it. So sorry for your news.
