I can't be the only one. If he's feeling randy he pretty much throws himself at the door (because we can hear the impact!), then gives a great swipe, marring the window panes of my French sliding doors which then, just magically open. He never shuts them. Locking them does no good, he makes toothpicks out of the woodwork if we take too long to open the door. In his defense, many times, first he will stand still, all noble and looking for eye contact. When that fails, out comes the mighty bark. If all family members continue to ignore the demands of the beast, he will take matters into his own paws.
So, am I the only one with perpetually ratty-looking, French style, sliding doors?

You are not the only one, Astra scratched by windows up because the UPS man loved to hear her bark.

Pharaoh uses the handle to slide it open if it is not locked. He lets himself in and out.
He does smear the window, but no destruction (knock on wood!).

Beetree ---- No, you are not the only one......this is what I have been dealing with everytime it rains....I put a piece of plexiglass in front of the door -- as you can see, it did not help.

When I moved to this place, I had the sense to put the dog yard about 10 feet away from the sliding glass doors. The inside may get dirty, but the outside stays pretty clean, though they did wreck the screen last summer, because they didn't see it, and tried to barge through it.

My three have a bad habit of running down stairs to the front door, jumping on the carpet so they can slide into the front door, which they hit with their rumps!!! Have tried rubber backing on the carpet only to watch the older one, turn it over, go back up the stairs and take a running jump onto it so he can slide into the door, then he allows the others to take their turn (evil dog). Now I have a screened in lanai which I am hoping survives, we are working on training now, as for patio doors and french doors, mine are like MaggieMae's. Who needs signs on their yards or homes, all a smart crook has to do is see the high up doggie paw and nose prints and run for the hills (of course mine would be going "ooo look a toy to chase").

Yup, if any crook wants to come into my house after seeing the muddy pawprints 5 1/2 feet up my front door, BIG muddy paw prints, they pretty much deserve what they're gonna get....LOL! My dogs learned to open our front door when we had one of those pretty sideways 'S' shaped door knobs....had to go back to the good ol' 'takes a thumb to turn' round door knob! And we call those snot spots 'nose blops'. We used to have little ones from the cat, but it's truly ridiculous now! Who needs a Beware of Dog sign when you've got paw prints the size of an adult human hand at eye level on the entrance door? LOL! jh
