Last weekend a lake resident reported a female German shepherd found on South Highway 5, approximately six miles from the square in Camdenton.

The caller believed the dog to be a search and rescue dog missing for several months from the Osage Beach Fire Department. It turned out to be a coincidence. The owner of the found dog remains unknown.

"I took her to the shelter to see if she had a chip, she didn't," Arlene Page with the Osage Beach Department of Public Safty said.

The shelter, the sheriff’s department and veterinarians in the area have received no phone calls about a missing German shepherd. It appears the dog has been dumped. She is approximately two years old and has some obedience training.

"I gave her a distemper shot for safety's sake," Page said. "She was a bit thin but that is changing quickly, she's a good eater. I can't keep her because my dogs will not tolerate the intrusion of their space. She appears to have had good breeding. She's great with kids and people in general. We've called her lady for lack of another name and in fact have called her every common shepherd name that we can think of, Heidi, Gretchen, etc., to see if she responds with recognition but she comes to all of them."

If any LakeExpo.com readers know the owner of this dog or are willing to open their home to her, please call Arlyne Page at the Osage Beach Department of Public Safety at 573- 348-5515.

Drat!  Steph asked me to post this for her but I can't get the pic to post.  It won't copy over.  She is black and tan, black muzzle, light face, good saddle...looks to be working lines, a medium sized bitch.  If anyone in this area is familiar with her or wants to provide her a home please contact the above phone number.  She looks really sweet in the photo.
