Im not saying that  this particular brindle shepherd is purebred, but I do believe that a brindle shepherd is very much possible.
I do believe that in the very begining of the breed, there was a brindle shepherd in the mix. However slim, genetically speaking, it would be possible..

there are no brindle shepherds anymore.  this one is a mix, and there are no akc or other legitimate registration papers with pedigree to prove it is purebred - are there?

most likely a mix with a dutch shepherd, or other "shepherd like" breed that does have brindle.

With enough inbreeding and maybe one will show up.

actually these dogs have been DNA'd.  AKC gave them provisional papers,  and after 3 gen of DNA is done,  they will lift it to full reg.  provisional papers still allows the dog to be breed,  just has to be DNA'd first.  dogs can be traced back to a german import bitch who had a few strips on her legs.  she produced the sire to the alabama dogs.

Molly, why is it impossible since there were brindle GSD? (Beowulf, for example) Do you know for a fact it's a mix, or are you just saying in all probability it's a mix?

by beetree on 26 January 2010 - 00:01

You say Beowulf was brindle? He looks black to me! Please, how do you know that?
