Can anyone give insight on controlling factors and genetic predispositons that affect the length of time it takes for a pup to reach mental maturity?

Also is it possible to predict(within reason) the rate of which a litter will reach mental maturity?

I think it depends on the dog it self and the lines.  Some lines mature faster then others.  So you can get an ldea from the lines that you have.  All my males have take at least 3 years to fully mature mentally, but the lines I have mature fairly slow,

The larger breeds take longer to mature, in a given breed the males take longer than a female.

In my experience a female GSD seems to mature around a year and a half and a male seems to still have the puppy inside him until after two years old.

No predicting within reason.
Genetics, maybe some lines might mature quicker than others but who would have any statistics to back up any of it.

I would think that it does depend on lines. My dog is 6 and still acts like an annoying puppy. Then the other GSD I had was very mature at 3 so it all varies.

Yoshy, I think you confused everyone. LOL. I know what you're asking, but I sure don't have an answer for you! Do you have a specific dog you're wondering about? If so, what are his/her lines?
