 >Care to spin again?"

Nope, my mistake.  That said, the "majority" was a sham with so many liberal repukes voting with the democrats.  The "majority" was very thin.

way to spend conservatively.

george campaigned on smaller government but only grew government.

Trace, Bush was not a fiscal conservative.  I know that.  He made a lot of mistakes and thank the lord the country will NEVER consider Jeb, God forbid, for that office.

Mud and rain here, too, in Northern Idaho in January.  It's been about twenty years since the last time it was this warm and stayed this warm in Jan, but it's not unheard of. There's not much snow, but that's probably compensation for the last two years of very heavy snowfall that collapsed roofs and caused other problems.

The dogs don't seem to really care what's on the ground, but I worry about the ice.  I don't want somebody to slip and hurt a hip or elbow.

As for the political scene, it is what it is.  I'm glad to see the democratic upset in Mass., but the simple fact is that we need to oust all 535 losers in Washington DC, along with anyone who's ever worked there.  It's time to clean house, first and foremost, get rid of the scum and corruption.  It doesn't matter what wool the wolf wears, he's still a wolf.  Too much power in the hands of too few people, people who have forgotten they answer to ALL Americans, not just the special interest groups and lobbyists.

I've got some seriously radical ideas for how to fix the problems, but there would be little point in offering them.  Someone above, Ulli, I think, mentioned that he'd never seen so many homeless as in Washington DC.  If the liberals feel so very bad about the poor and helping the poor, like they tout in their speeches, why are those people, in OUR NATION'S CAPITAL, still homeless and hungry?

Democrats have been in control of Congress for about five years now, and O has been in the biggest government-subsidized house of all for a year, so why are those homeless folks not being given places to live, etc?  Is it because it's more important to dump billions and billions of dollars into failing banks, investment companies, automaker, and such that can't stand on their own and should fail, than to spend A FEW MILLION dollars getting the homeless to work and off the streets?  Cannot Wall Street take some of it's vast profits and create jobs with it, instead of making upper level execs who are already superwealthy, even wealthier?

You cannot get out of debt by spending more money.  This is a concrete fact.  Taxes need to be cut, making people more willing to work hard, AND GOVERNMENT SPENDING NEEDS TO BE CUT.  The Federal government has no business sticking its nose into the business of the states, and it needs to be reminded of that.  There is a very good reason we have levels of government, and that is to prevent the sort of abuses of power that are going on right now.  If there are folks who admire the way other countries do things, then by all means, do go to them.  Most Americans LIKE America.  There's nothing wrong with being unique, different.  Opinions on the success of the programs in each country vary, and that is as it should be.

For me, I like the principles upon which my country was founded, and I have no desire to see this country become anything else.  I would, however, like to see lawyers capped, so that insurance need not be so high, which would go a long way in reducing medical costs.  But here's a sobering thought for those of you who really, really want to see socialized medicine:  Not sure about the stats in other countries, but here, Doctors are the third leading cause of death.
