Take a look at the photos--she looks purebred and her lovely broad head suggests that she may be from German working lines. From the brief description, she seems to have a sweet temperament.

Is there anyone in or near North Carolina who can save her and her pups?

by mobjack on 19 January 2010 - 04:01

A GSRA volunteer has already stepped up.
Mom and pups are being pulled and will be saved.

Thanks for the info--that is very good news!

The photos are still worth a look, since they show the type of really fine-looking GSD that can end up on death row at the dog pound.

yes, purebred.  Pups look purebred too.  How in the world did she end up in the shelter?

I can take them all if transport can be arranged to PA.

"How in the world did she end up in the shelter?"

Good question. I've seen quite a few good quality GSDs that are clearly purebred and clearly from German working lines in dog pounds/shelters. Someone probably paid quite a bit for them as pups . . . and then just moved on, leaving the dog behind. Sadly, it happens all the time. Some years ago, I found a new home for a gorgeous bicolor GSD that the owner paid $3000 for as a pup. He never spent much time with the dog and finally decided to dump him. The dog had a wonderful temperament and made his new family very happy.

I wonder if the NC dog has an ear tattoo.

She is a very sweet looking dog, but very thin in that pic. Probably purebred working lines. No telling about the pups.
GSRA is full at the moment but one of our other volunteers is taking her and the pups until the pups are weaned. From there I think the pups and/or mom are going to BDBH rescue. Word is there may be as many as 11 pups in that litter. they'll all be pulled tomorrow and in a nice warm home.

I have to say, GSRA is one of the BEST rescues out there.

How very sad that she ended up there.  One has to wonder about the how & why.  Glad to hear someone has stepped up and taken her and the pups out of there.  Things like this just break my heart.

Mobjack, you're saying someone is going to get her?  I've fished shepherds out of NC pounds before.  I'm willing to go get her if absolutely necessary (but would need to get her to a foster with capability to handle the mom & babies).  Let me know if a backup is needed.

Maybe she was lost.  Was she a stray?  Any tattoo or chip?
