GSDPACK

This is disturbing for me. I guess I am naive, stupid I want to believe that people are good and just honorable! I got into a discussion on a Czech forum and I was discussing PSA.

Anyway somehow it came downt to me pointing out the fact that the Czech dogs look great and sporty.Flying through the air ..there is NOTHING.. no spirit, no spark and no fight, just pretty, happy, sleeve crazy animals. ( I was commenting on those from the forum)
I wrote some things stating that some dogs coming from Czech lately are not very good and I wondered what happend. The answer was this and I almost vomited into my mouth a little bit:
"Nobody with the right state of mind would sell a good dog,to some crazies who can't even raise their own. Of course they send the crap. Why would they sell god dogs? I know I wouldn't since I sold some of my washouts."

I will never ever import another green dog from the Czech Republic and for those who do, please make sure you know the people you are dealing with.

why would you denounce a country and not a specific breeder?

thats ignorant.

germany breeds bad dogs. i imported a bad pup. so now you denounce germany? that would be plain stupid.

just because a dog is czech doesnt mean anything in its self. which of the czech/ddr lines did the pup come out of. which kennel? what was the pedigree? what message was conveyed to the breeder? how much research did the purchaser put into finding the right pup? what breeder? who did the developement and how was it done? was it a proven breeding?  i mean these are the questions you should be asking instead of denouncing a country/lines of proven working dogs due to some ignorant forum post.

i know the statement you recited as a response was a pretty bad one but thats why you take note and move on and only use reputable kennels and spend your own time doing research, and getting to knwo the breeder. its that simple.

Yoshy,
you are not getting the point here. I have Czech dogs. I imported a lot of nice puppies and also couple of really bad dogs when I requested something else. I also imported  a puppy that is placed now with police department after he was trained by my friend. I bred couple nice dogs as well!
I am from that country and I got screwed by my so called friends... I am not going to be talking about bloodlines, those dogs had nice pedigrees and maybe screwy trainig or just not the best potential to do the job. Not every puppy from a litter is going to be a superstar I am aware of that!

I am warning people based what I was told. Police officers were called names and called unable to raise their own dogs. I am not putting down dogs. I am putting down some dog dealers and sellers and warning people to make sure they know who they deal with.
Take it for what is worth I have been in this Dog game for some years now.. and I would never think I get told to take what is given to me since the guys (officers) can't do any better anyway... well, excuse me!

GSDPACK, Do you take everything said on this forum to be truth? Why would you assume a Czech forum to be any different, the person might not even be a breeder. Some people from all countries will sell dogs of lesser quality if they find a buyer,it happens everyday.

POINT IS :Take a green dog from reputable dealer only.  You get it? Nothing more, nothing less! I am not preaching, I am warning people to take into consideration the fact that there are people who screw people and it is hard to track down people in Czech Republic or as yoshy said Germany. If somebody openly saiz I screw people with garbage because they are stupid and they dont have a clue.... I become little more careful.

Im not trying to break your balls or nothing but you said completely different things in the 2 posts.

somehow it came downt to me pointing out the fact that the Czech dogs look great and sporty.Flying through the air ..there is NOTHING.. no spirit, no spark and no fight, just pretty, happy, sleeve crazy animals

this statement sounds like knocking czech dogs?

I will never ever import another green dog from the Czech Republic ,

seems like you denounced imports from czech to me?

There are czech importers and breeders on this forum that im sure would take great offense to those statements and could help you find some fine dogs of a very high caliber.

side note:

this in no way condones the statement you recited from the guy on the other forum but.

There are many great PD/k9 units out there but

also not to say sell police crap dogs. but its not a far fetched statement to say many shouldnt have dogs. there are departments who lack the skill in training/ funding for training and or trainers, funding for 1st class dogs, or political ties etc.... There is a case up the road in PA that a town sheriff purchased 7500$ pre trained dog that bit another officer and the dog lost his life for it. this is a little small dept that should never have had this dog. We put rescue dogs in our state trooper programs here in MD as well because they dont wanna open up bidding and they just give tax credits. How many cases can you google right now where k9's have died, pdd's have been sued for wrongful bites and or injured officers, or dogs jumped in cars with perps, or the famous you tube video of the k9 running with the perp like it was a game. These dogs should be selected more carefully and the handlers/ k9 trained more efficiently in a lot of units.

i only say this because breeders will see this as ignorance and take top dollar for bottom dogs.

yoshy,

please stop picking on this! I am not going to discuss police departments and they training abilities or finances. Point is:

Please test the dog, make sure you are getting what you paid for and make sure that the dog is good for what is going to be used for since people brag about sending crap to the USA as a mormal and common practice!

honorable dealer is not going to be offended, they have a good stock and they stand behind their dogs. I know of few of them and I know they have no reason to be offended because this doesn't concern them.

Why would anyone start this topic?...you are just asking for trouble...it's people like this that all they do is invite hostility to this forum.

No offense to anyone.

I wonder, Yoshy and others, do you not have anything better to do with your time than pick apart someones post...... I think many on here would be better off training their dogs or something else instead of putting down others posts or acting like someones an idiot posting something.

I get what GSDPACK is saying, to me it's just to say....use common sense, be weary of who you buy a dog from, test the dog first, etc.  It's just them saying they wouldn't get a dog from the Czech again.......but if someone else does then be careful in going about it.

Anyway,  anyone else who is going to come to this post and be harsh,  go do something more productive. Go work your dogs, go to Haiti and help them.....theres more important things to do in life than stay on a forum all the time.  This is why I rarely get on here anymore.

This isn't a Czech thing... it can happen with any import.  And yes, this kind of thing happens all the time.  Look at all those hundreds of ads... do you think they are really all "top sport extra special" dogs?  Ha!

I think it's a very valid topic.  The mystique of "the import" is a tough myth to break.  A lot of people naively assume that a dog imported straight from [insert country name here] has got to be better than dogs bred on US soil.

I went to a Bernhard Flinks seminar last year and he was very honest about the situation in Germany.  He was very blunt:  "The Germans don't sell their good dogs, unless they really need the money and then they [the buyers] will have to pay through the nose.  If the dog is a good dog, first someone in club would take it.  If no one in the club wants it, then someone in the Region would take it."

Better that some of the newbies learn about this sooner rather than later.  Some top breeders and competitors go to Europe to get their stock but they have established relationships and "go to" people.  The average Joe doesn't have that luxury, just hundreds of flashy ads that all claim to have that super duper dog.  Again this is not specific just those two countries - they just happen to be particularly prolific in their dog sales.  ;)
