Sorry hit the button to early disreguard the first one

I am a new  to this  forum but I have a question maybe I could get advice.  I just recently started breeding German Shepherds again after several years of being out of it.  divorce, moving to another state, raising kids etc...
I had sold a litter in 2006 and sold them on a limited registration.  There was 10 total.  I sold them on a limited so they wouldnt be used in puppy mills, byb and to preserve the line I was trying to build.  anyways I had a contract stating it was limited registration but not a spay and neuter contract which I should have had.

I sent out the puppy registration to each of the buyers and in the mean time one of the purchasers had kept in touch as to whether I would remove the limited.  I told them I would think about it if the dog was x rayed and wasnt bred before its 2nd birthday.
next thing I know three years later they are selling Akc pups and I find out that they have a full registration on the dog.  they claim I didnt mark off the limited but I know i did because I contacted te others and they were marked off.  They did have the hips x rayed I checked and they claim that we had an agreement But like I said I know  I marked it off.  So how could they have got a full  and what Can I do I contacted AKC because I want all of the pupppies and the dogs registration revoked but they didnt know what they could do between the contract and the e-mails we had sent back and forth about the stipulations.

The puppy buyer doesnt have the orginal paper registration they said they destroyed it  after they registered the pup online and I didnt keep any copy except of the bill of sale stating limited registration

If I wasnt clear on anything I can answer questions

the problem is, the puppy buyers can register online.  The paper form you gave them had the limited registration "block" colored in - indicating the limited registration - but the number you are blacking out is pretty easy to see - either through the marking, or with light behind it, holding up the paper.  All the owners need is that number, to register their puppy online with full registration.  The same thing happened to me, though luckily it was just because the owners didn't know better - not because they wanted to breed the dog (or at least they didn't breed the dog).  Turns out they had changed his name as well, the name on the registration application with my kennel name was not the name they registered online.

so, bottom line is, if you want to be certain the name of the dog and the limited registration remains "intact" - register the whole litter to yourself first - akc now has an option you can register the litter to yourself for $10 per pup.  Then you can name the pups, and do the limited (or not) and then sign the papers off for transfer of ownership to the new owners.

That is a great new feature.  I have done that now with my last two litters.  Price is reasonable and then you can name them and limit them if you want.

I am not sure what to tell you about your dog.  You might contact AKC and discuss this with them.

I can;t imagine anyone would destroy the application? why would you do that, I always keep them as a part of the file. If you didn't want to reg the whole litter you could photo copy the applications with it marked ltd and retain it  with the litter form. you may have to take it as lesson learned and let karma get them. that happened to me one time the original owner got divorced instead of calling me she sold the dog the application was marked ltd the new owner called when I refused to lift the ltd they went and got those lame CKC papers...there was nothing I could do it was a nightmare

Best way to fix that is to individualy register the pups online yourself. It costs $10.00 each after you register the litter at AKC. You can transfer the registration certificate to the new owner with the chip number on the registration. If they don't happen to like your kennel name on the dog and your choice of a name tell them too damn bad, keep looking. BTW if you chip and/or tattoo the dog a vet, if the least bit reputable, is going to ask questions when someone is asking for the chip to be taken out of a purebred/registered dog that already has a chip in it. His first reaction is that the dog has been stolen.

I have found out in life that if someone is going to cheat you they will cheat you. These people lay awake at night trying to figure out a way to shaft other people while the rest of us are just sleeping to get our rest for an honest day's work.

AKC Says it will honor your contract in legal issues.  Although you must talk to the right department and not just the rep who answers the phone.  I've gotten conflicting info from the initial reps who try to answer so don't leave it up to them! If you can produce the bill of sale with both your's and their signature then you should not have a problem.

If you do not want to register puppies to yourself, you can cut out the numbers. There is nothing important on the back that would be messed up.

Good luck!

Or use a sharpie marker to black out the numbes.  Depending on how it dries reapplie or apple to the back side as well!

Yes, you can do that and I've done it for a while now!  It leaves just a very small hole but works perfectly and keeps everyone honest. Even with the blackest marker you can still see the numbers so don't depend on that

I have had 4 individuals try to steal my breeding lines over the years by reading the blackened out box through the light. One guy stole the breeding rights back when we just checked the box with a check mark. AKC says "cut out the numbers" and that is what I do.  I successfully disputed all four with AKC and won the cases.  But what a headache!  You have to send a written complaint with copies of your breeder's record for the litter and any other agreements or details of the transaction. Then AKC contacts the puppy's owners and asks them for their paperwork.  When they can't produce it or if they admit then that the number was blacked out, then AKC changes the registration to limited. There's no sure way to keep your kennel name unless you register the litter yourself.  Most people who buy my puppies are honest, but as we know, there are a few out there who are not.
Good luck.
