Don't you love it?  I have the old DC-8 (purple "animal" model).   I got the portable cordless dyson for x-mas and I love that one, too.  When my DC-8 finally goes I will get the animal model with the ball.  Did you see the WAY COOL dyson fans?  They call it an air multiplier - it has no fins to gather dust, it is amazing, check it out on the dyson website.  GO DYSON!

Please let us know how well it holds up.  I currently have a machine with a Hepa filter that uses cloth bags, and while it works well the bags are costly.  If the Dyson does a good job I could see it paying for itself in around a year's time...

I've had a DC-8 "animal" for years and it's holding up great!  I think around year five, I had to replace the main hose and a small hose that runs between the base and the cannister but the parts were readily available from Dyson, inexpensive and simple to replace.  Best vacuum on the planet, IMO.

Good to know, thanks!  How weird is it that I'm excited about a good vacuum cleaner?  I know people here understand, but it's not something I'd broadcast elsewhere! :D

You know you're a dog fanatic when you take carpet samples that have been used for crate pads for a couple weeks to the vacuum cleaner shop to test the machines. (Yeah--- I really did do that)
I envy your Dyson.

Reymond , I really do not care how much it cost, if you analyze the machines I have used is years past , the electricity used per second, and the amount of my time, it will pay for itself in one year.  And it really Sucks !!!!!! I just love it.  The little things in life make me very happy and it is Purple my favorite color.
Always,

Love my Dyson Animal! Worth every damn dollar it cost. First time I used it I vacuumed up 3 canisters full of fine particles; and this after I just had vacuumed the day before with my old one. Only part I had to replace so far is the little belt that runs the brush. I had cought a shoe lace.
