I live in South Florida and one of my dogs is shedding terribly. Temperatures lately have ranged from the 40's to the 70's. She is predominately an indoor dog. I don't recall any of my dogs blowing their coat at this time of year, so it concerns me. She is a spayed female so it is not due to her hormones. Is anyone else's dog shedding right now?

LOL my dog sheds all year round. What food is she on? Have you changed anything? Could be cause the fluctuation of temp.I wouldn't worry about it unless you see her acting different. Hope you have a good vacume.

My two are shedding like mad, and it's been getting to the forties here...Been much colder than that, too.  I think they shed all the time, not as heavy as when they blow coat, though.

If she's suddenly shedding that heavily, then it could be temp...But watch closely and be sure.

No, not acting different now, but. my son's new rescue dog, a Border Collie, tried to attack her last week (that is for another thread!), so I am thinking it could be due to the trauma from that. He grabbed onto her with his teeth, but was on a leash and we got him off her immediately. He didn't break the skin, but still he hurt her and she was shaken up at the time and so was I!  She is on a raw diet and she normally sheds only in the spring and fall. Temps have gotten colder lately, so maybe that has something to do with it? Yes, i have a good vacuum

Thanks Crys,  I would say she is blowing her coat and not just shedding. I hope it is due to the temperature change! BTW, I always enjoy seeing pics and getting the updates of you beautiful girl!

Do not buy a Meile vacuum cleaner if you have German Shedders because their bags cost a fortune and they are hard to find.

Mine started blowing coat like crazy about 3 weeks ago and we've been unseasonably cold I'm told. W/wind chill it's been down to 10. I was thinking the same thing... why NOW. Lol. We did move from FL 7 months ago though, so I'll chalk it up to the climate differences. This is not one but 5 dogs, both indoor and out.

Fortunately we have a central vac system and it is fantastic. This is the first time in a long time that I have seen "hairy tumbleweeds" in the house.  Our dogs typically don't shed much at all, but I could knit a sweater with the hair I've found on the floor and brushed out of my girl lately

Melissa,
The fact that your dogs are blowing their coats makes me feel a little better. You must live in north or central Florida with those temps! Brrrr

My LH female blew her coat a month ago, just when it was starting to get cold, she lost all of her hair!!

However, now she has stopped but is in full blown heat.  Her coat came in thick and beautiful btw.  This is the first time I remember a dog of mine blowing her coat this time of year.  Maybe it`s just because she is a LC that it seemed like so much hair.
