I'm not even going to pretend I know anything about this- but it caught my eye because they are asking for help!

I saw that too. At first I thought it was someone asking for money, but when I read it, I PM'd the poster and said he/she might get more help if they put it on here and stated the big name dogs who they are looking to find in the pedigree as a possible match. While I don't know if I would put my dog through that, I did have a friend who gave his brother a kidney and he is perfectly fine with just one, as is another friend of mine who was only born with one. The owner of the sick dog is being very generous with the terms, and it's obvious the dog is extremely special to them.

While I'm usually one to err on the side of letting nature take it's course, I honestly can't say that I wouldn't do the same thing if it was my dog. I am assuming they're getting zero help from Kraftwerk on this.

I uploaded the dog's pedigree. Here it is: www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/637013.html

I also thought by doing this, and putting NEEDS NEW KIDNEY in the spot for titles, it will show up on the right under "Latest Pedigrees" and people will naturally be curious.

Dog's a Metin Statfeldt grandson, Pike great grandson (I think.only glanced at it a second...) and has Chicco Fasanerie on the bottom.

How does 1 go about checking to see if the dog is a match? That poor dog :-(    I agree, Kraftwerk is not going to help this guy out.

Typically, kidney donors are siblings or parents. I PM'd the owner with the link to his siblings (I registered him on here so we could see that ) and told them to post that they were looking for those dogs. I would say sibs and half sibs would be the best chance. I have a Metin grand daughter w/similar lines but like so many others, we're in the process of doing things w/her that a kidney removal would really screw up. I have a bunch of deposits on puppies due in June, and she's still working on titles, etc. If I had a retired dog or a dog that was just a pet and not a breeding female, I would help this guy out.

I have a Kraftwerk dog, but no common siblings! I would do it if there was.

I don't have the lines that this dog has, otherwise I would try to help out. They need to post on here and every where they can to try to get help. Kraftwerk should at least let them know where his siblings are. Also they can contact AKC and ask who the owner's are so that he can get some kind of help.

I doubt anyone would give out that info. Her best bet is probably here. She should post on every Shepherd forum though. I know there are a lot of Kraftwerk dogs in pet homes that probably are on different boards, if they're on a board at all.

My boy is a Kraftwerk dog, but not related at all. When I called AKC and asked for information, they gave it to me. It won't hurt for them to try. At the least maybe they can get an adress to write a letter to his siblings, or AKC can contact the owner's. Every little bit helps, and they won't know if AKC can help unless they try. Just a thought.

Here is the classified:

I am looking for help saving my dog. Orso is a 3 year old German Shepherd who is suffering from kidney displasia (genetic kidney failure). We are looking for a good hearted person who owns a dog of the same bloodline to become a kidney donor to save our family memeber. We have been in contact with the leading kidney translplant surgeon in the country and we have been reassured of the saferty of the procedure for the donor dog (both humans and dogs only need one kidney for completely normal life). We are open to all possibilities including buying a dog or financial compensation for the owner of the donor dog. We would also take care of all expenses associated with transportation and full recovery of the donor dog. Our dog came form Kraftwerk K9, his father was V-Ursus aus dem Furstentum Lippe and mother Amie von der Mamutsschlucht. Orso was born on December 2, 2006. Currently Orso is in critical condition and will die without a transplant. Please help us save Orso.

I would think that litter mates maybe a match. The donors we found where from the pound and the donor was adopted by the recipients owners. It was a win win.

Always,
Cee
