Hi all. My new pup Jake has an ear that flops forward and one that stands up. I know they have flopped ears as pups but should it be sorted by now? my wife loves it and thinks its cute, he does look very fuuny at the mom bless him. So the question is: is this normal and will it correct itself? Please see pics below cheer :)

The one floped ear is perfectly normal for a 12 week old GSD.

What a little cutie!! Don't be worried about the ears. They go up & down, back & forth & side to side before they are finished. Make sure he has plenty to chew on to help develop the muscles that will help them stand. The base looks good so I doubt seriously if there is going to be a problem. I think we all watch our pups ears wondering if they are going to ever going to stand. Just when they both look perfect, they start to teethe and the ears start doing their floppy dance...AUGH! Chill out and give it a couple of months minimum before you start to sweat it if even then. I would not be at all concerned until 6mo +. Echo's left ear took until she was about 6mo before it finally was upright. It went up literally bit by bit.

its alright to have flopped ear upto a yr after that if still flopped take two of the cardboard centers of a toilet paper roll and put his ears in that and tape them together but no need to worry till about a yr old

Thankyou so much for the advice and peace of mind. He already has a heart murmur so atleast his ears should be ok lol
bless him. Cheers.

I read about the heart mumur on another post. Personally I would have taken the dog back,in saying that, you need to consciously not treat this dog any different than you would a dog that doesnt have a heart mumor. Because one day he is going to take advantage of that and it could turn ugly. Ive worked with owners who have done this and they were sorry when it was all said and done. If you find yourself wanting to give allowances to the dog stop. If you find you cant, then take the dog back.

I know what your saying. A human would expect to be treated as an equal if living with a disability or defect so why should it be different for a dog. I would much rather treat him like any other dog and I have made the decision to keep him. We are all very attached to him already and so are my kids. The thought of him going back to the breeder with the chance of them putting him down is unbarable. As for your views I completely understand where your coming from.

As everyone else has said, it's pretty normal.
I bet his left ear is up tomorrow morning! Then flopped again in a short while. His ears look fine.
