whats the difference between an agitation collar and a flat collar?

An agitation collar is 1& 1/2 to 2 inches wide and made of very stiff leather, so that it won't interfere with the dog's breathing or cause him to choke & cough or break blood vessels in his eyes when he is straining against it during agitation. Here are a couple of examples: http://www.hallmarkk9.com/americanmadeagitationcollar112-1.aspx and http://www.hallmarkk9.com/americanmadeagitationcollar112.aspx You can also get them with handles built in: http://www.dogsportgear.com/Leather_dog_collar_with_handle.htm
A flat collar is more narrow and flexible, it's really designed to hold ID tags, or used for lightweight stuff, not good for agitation.
Personally I prefer to use an agitation harness because in the past I have had a young dog strain so hard against the agitation collar, he still broke blood vessels in his eyes. Here is the agitation harness I use: http://www.dogsportgear.com/Ultra_Leather_Dog_Harness.htm

Here!, Here! I second that harness that Sueincc posted the link to. Those babies are NICE! Very high quality. I know four people who have them (including me).
