As a trained biologist, and student of anatomy, this is what my gut has been telling me for years. Now, at last, there is scientific proof! I guess the next question is, how do we get the breeders to change?

Videx, when they say 50% of OFA Excellent dogs still develop arthritis, have you any idea if that's just GSD's, or is the article referring to all breeds?

My understanding is "all dogs" = all breeds

There were some studies done in the University of Bern, Switzerland on the association between facet joint geometry and intervertebral disc degeneration in the GSD compared with other dogs of similar weight and condition.

From what I recall, the results concluded that GSD have more facet joint tropism but that this was not a factor in disc degeneration.  However, GSD also had different facet joint angulations compared to control dogs and that this angle difference may be associated with disc degeneration.  Interesting……I must see if I can dig out the article.
