8 week, 18 pound old mini-hanny had a tiny red spot on her belly 48 hours ago, 24 hours ago it was larger more red and very hard.

mini-hanny is still eating and playing as usual - tearing everything up and biting me every time she gets a chance. no fever.

today before I could get her to the vet, it popped and she has a hole where the abuses was.

vet gave antibiotic shot, pills for rest of week and another shot to reduce pain and swelling.......

has any one had this issue before and what was the end result?

Likely a staph infection that led to the abscess. Treat as instructed. Consider really cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces the pup and other dogs have been on. 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, let sit for 30 ten minutes and then rinse well with clear water. Don't use this mix on metal. You can use something like Lysol on metal surfaces and wipe well. The abscess ruptured.....natures' way of trying to get rid of the infection. Fortunately, the pup did not exhibit systemic signs of infection, but it is not normal for a pup to get abscesses at 18 weeks old. Clean and disinfect everything. The abscess may continue to drain and take some time to close up. This is another reason why you want to clean to prevent reinfection. I would also bathe the dogs in the household, if at all possible. She should recover with proper antibiotics. If she is not dramatically better in a day or two, then talk to your vet.

Vet said it may have been a lymph node, splinter, bug bite, or bite or scratch from another dog when playing. Anything that broke the skin and let bacteria in could have caused it.

He said her body was doing what it's supposed to do and even though it nasty to look at it should be fine. Healing process has to work from the inside, the hole may bet a bit bigger, it might get uglier before it gets better. Keep her on antibiotics for the next 7 days, apply neosporin to the outside if I want. Good thing is that the infection was confined to the abscess and was not systemic.

I came home and and started washing EVERYTHING, is smells like a pine forest in here, not a dust bunny to  be found, everything is gleaming, except for me.

When my husband came in, he looked abound the house, and with a twinkle in his eyes and a boyish smile on his face asked me if I'd like to sit for a moment and drink a glass of wine. Made me a bubble bath and even cooked dinner! On the way to the bath, I glanced in the mirror - OMG - I looked like Lucille Ball in one of her silly skits!

LOL, Well maybe not quite this bad!

OH my god, poor baby:  I have been there, for one reason or another and cleaned everything including any dirt outside my door, kennels, and etc.  I felt like I was cleaning the world.  But once you recooperate from the cleaning frenzy, you feel good...
