I have a female who has been bred before however, it was her first time so she had to be held. I figured on her subsequent breedings she would be used to it but since then she has not bred. I'm not able to hold her because I'm her owner so when I'm around and another male is around she wont' pay him any attention. For her first breeding I had a friend of mine hold her in order to get the breeding done while I hid in the house. He has since moved away so now I have no one to hold my female for me. Is this common in bitches to have to be held in order to breed? Are there some bitches who never ever breed naturally? My female is not aggressive to males she even stands for them on her own but for some reason the male just won't penetrate. I have only used older experienced males. Any suggestions? Also I have talked to her breeder who owns her sister and he said he had to hold her even with his own male whom she grew up with? Is the ability to breed genetic?

How about the stud owner?
There could be genetic reasons why a dog could not breed, but standing is not one of them as far as I know.
Put them together in a kennel and turn your back, I bet they lock up if she's ready and he's got a pair.
I hold mine when it is a safety concern, if not I don't.
Perhaps she's just a little high strung.
