Hi guys this is my first post i have a 3year old shepherd who is obedience trained but for one thing if we have any visitors to our house and they go out side to see him he races up & down the yard like a mad dog he eventually settles down but he will not listen to any commands while he is doing it we do not have a great many people come to the house most are family and he does it with them he is good with people out side the property any ideas on how to stop this behavior

He is just excited to have visitors, I take it he does not live in the house. What toy does he love the best or is he food motivated. I taught our dog that people want to play ball with her - she goes an gets her ball on a string and takes it to the visitor to play
Always,
Cee

We just settle in and watch him go, when my three year old does it. Like yesterday in the first snow. He just couldn't contain his joy.
Play with your dog and get him good and tired before you know company is coming, that might help.

This sounds like a lovely dog, albeit tiring. He sounds like he is having a good show-off to people watching, and getting rid of excess energy at the same time. Embrace this behaviour and modify it when necessary, i.e. let him go for a little while, then when he stops and looks around for something else to do, get out the ball, or a relevant toy, and let your visitors enjoy a game with him. maybe he ie excited that visitors are coming because he gets to play fetch.....
by letting visitors play fetch with him adds to the excitement.
could be worse, he could want to bite the head off of everyone that comes for a visit.
