Back in the 80's, I made the mistake of doing a 1-2 inbreeding on an American dog of very high repute. That was a mistake, because neither of the two puppies was as good as the mother or most of her litter mates. I now look for two really good specimens of the breed who are anatomically similar and have good working values.

My original post was to show that close line breeding has been practiced commonly for a long time in GSD breedings. However you need to be very clear about the specimens being bred to know what possibly is the expected outcome of the breeding. It has to be done very carefully and has to have a clear need behind it. The specimens characteristics must be screaming out loud to be mutliplied 2 fold or 3 folds as the case may be

Vikram,
your example was born in 1972 in East Germany. The GDR had their own registry, appart from the SV in West Germany.
John,
your example was born in the Netherlands, also different requirements than Gemany.
The SV does not permit a 2-2 linebreeding, unless an application for an exception is filed before this breeding takes place. It has been rarely done in the past and never now. And it certainly is not necessary. We have enough genetic diversity with the traits we desire, regardless of working or showlines.

When line breeding that close you had better know the lines like the back of your hand and be ready to cull as necisarry. I would,nt do it but it is done.
One of the possible breedings I may do if all works out well is a 2-4 on Troll Vom Haus Milinda.
